Most of the shopping I do for our Australian Silky Terrier is at a locally owned pet store called the Pet Zoo. Every year around the Christmas season they give each of their frequent shopper, rewards card holders, a free gift bag filled with dog toys and treats. One of those treats was a bag of Zuke’s Mini Bakes, in the Chicken n’ Cherryz flavor.
I love to patronize companies who do business in the USA, and Zuke’s Mini Bakes are indeed made in the USA, Durango, Colorado to be exact. These treats contain no wheat, soy, or corn, so they are perfect for dogs who have food allergies to these ingredients (which is becoming more and more common).
As far as ingredients go, these are totally natural! They contain ground oats, rice bran, chicken, cherries, potatoes, oat fiber, blackstrap molasses, oil blend (sunflower, olive and canola), and natural vegetable flavors. Wow! How natural is that? These treats actually contain real chicken, I am blown away by the quality that goes into these dog treats.
Since we have a small breed dog, weighing just ten pounds, Zack’s Mini Bakes are a perfect choice for her, and although she is a fussy eater, she eats these right down. She wasn’t sure about them at first, taking them in her mouth, spitting them out, then picking them up again, but if I break them into two pieces for her, she gobbles them up.
Zuke’s Mini Bakes measure 7/8″ long on the bottom, while the tapered top is 3/4″. They are slightly dome shaped, with “Zukes” engraved in the top, and scored lines on the sides for ease in breaking them into two even smaller pieces.
I can see how these all natural, healthy dog biscuits would make a great treat for dog trainers. You could use the full sized treat for large dogs, and break them in half for small breed dogs. The chicken adds the protein, and the cherries add antioxidants! They are crunchy enough that they help keep a dogs teeth clean, which helps their breath to be fresh.
These retail for between $3.50 and $4.00 per box, but you get a generous amount, 325 treats! If you have a small breed dog like I do, and you break them in half, that really makes these treats go a long, long way. I love the integrity of the ingredients, no wheat, corn, artificial flavors, and no by-products. Each treat contains only 5 calories!
If you are looking for a healthy, truly natural dog treat or mini biscuit to give your dog, I highly recommend looking into Zuke’s Mini Bakes. They are also available in Turkey n’ Taterz and Peanut Butter n’ Blueberriez.
