*** UPDATE: They have since moved Invasion at Breakpoint to the DLC playlist, so at least Bungie fixed that mistake.***
Halo: Reach is a pretty popular game these days. On November 30th, Bungie released the “Noble Map Pack” add-on for the game. Of course, this added three new maps and seven new achievements onto the game, which excited plenty of the game’s regular players. The price of the map pack was a little steep at $10.00, but that didn’t stop many people – including myself – from buying it. Mostly, everything was great. Getting one particular achievement, called “You Blew It Up!” (Destroy the research facility in a Matchmade Invasion game on Breakpoint), however, made me want to throw my 360 out the window because it was so difficult to get.
Okay, getting the achievement wasn’t actually that hard, but simply being in a position to get the achievement was the most difficult thing in the world. You can’t access Invasion at Breakpoint through the DLC playlist. In fact, you must go to the Invasion playlist for some reason. A person might assume that Breakpoint would come up constantly during the voting options because so many people would want the achievement. Well, you’re completely wrong because the following things need to happen in order for Breakpoint to even be an option:
* All 12 players must have the “Noble Map Pack” or Breakpoint won’t even show up as an option – ever.
* Breakpoint actually has to be the map that gets chosen by the players.
From there, things get much more simple if you can actually get Breakpoint as an option, vote for it, and start playing the Invasion game. Blowing up the research facility occurs in the second phase when you are on offense as the Elites. Fortunately, this achievement IS a group achievement, so you don’t have to be the person to take the bomb to the marker and detonate it. Once this happens, the achievement will pop, and life can be perfect again.
Let me tell you my personal story of what it took to get the achievement. I had the option to play Invasion at Breakpoint four times before I was able to get the achievement:
* #1: It was an Invasion Slayer game, so there was no research facility to blow up.
* #2: Our team got stopped before we could detonate the bomb because the enemies camped by the bomb.
* #3: Invasion at Breakpoint was an option, and we all voted for it, but the game glitched and couldn’t load the map, so we didn’t even get to play. Sadly, it ended up being something like Invasion at Spire.
* #4: Finally, I got the achievement on this try. We pretty much won all three phases without any problems; the enemy beat us in all three phases too. Either way, I got the darn achievement.
You Will Hate Getting This Achievement
Honestly, the achievement is pretty simple to earn when you actually get to vote for and play on Breakpoint in Invasion. The annoying part comes because people still haven’t bought the “Noble Map Pack,” which automatically disqualifies Breakpoint as an option if those people are in the game. I must have played Invasion 20 or more times before Breakpoint (Invasion or Invasion Slayer) even popped up. On the plus side, you’ll get really good at all the Invasion maps while you wait for the proper map and game type to show up, which could take days. Of course, you might get lucky and be able to get the map and achievement right away. Lucky you, then. Most people will run into the same issue that I have up until a few minutes ago.
Boost the Achievement?
You could always just boost the achievement with three Xbox 360s and 12 controllers. However, you should be careful because Bungie has now banned boosting (and Firefight Idling), so you run the risk of being banned if you cheat to get the achievement. Of course, you could always just fall through the cracks and be fine. Their announcement was slightly vague, but it more than likely was meant to include full-party boosting. If you want the achievement that bad, then you might as well boost it. Remember, you’ve been warned about being banned!
Worst Halo: Reach Achievement?
The achievement itself is probably one of the easiest achievements in the game to earn, but it is just so damn aggravating at the moment to be in the position to earn it. More than likely, more and more people will have the “Noble Map Pack” this month, so your difficulty in getting Breakpoint as a map choice will decrease. For now though, it’s excruciatingly enraging to play tons of Invasion games on other maps before you can access this one.
However, the biggest problem with this achievement is definitely the fact that you NEED to use the Invasion playlist to access this map, even though there is a DLC playlist available. The DLC playlist requires 12 people in total to play most of the games, which is the exact same number required for Invasion. Most people are calling for an Invasion playlist within the DLC grouping, which I completely agree with. Hopefully, Bungie will wise up and give us what we want! Until then, good luck getting this achievement!
