If you are here on the Yahoo! Contributor Network (or Associated Content), then you must have seen all the different articles that can be published under all the different categories by about 400,000 different authors (or Contributors, if you want to be proper). If you have ever wondered how that content gets there or if you would like to produce content too – well, you can! And you can get paid writing for the Yahoo! Contributor Network.
Perhaps you already write for the Yahoo! Contributor Network, but things aren’t going so well for you here. The following can help you too if you read onward.
I have been writing for the Yahoo! Contributor Network since July 2010, and I have published 56 pieces of content at the time of this writing and have six waiting to be approved. That’s step number one.
1. Always Have Content Awaiting Review
This is an important step in making money on the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Never, ever have your article queue empty. If you always have an article or two (or more preferably) waiting to be published or have an offer made on them, then you won’t feel like your just sitting around once the offers come start to come in for you.
Keep writing (every day if you can) and keep articles in the queue. Don’t worry about waiting for them to be published before you start your next article. If you do that, you will do a lot of sitting around and no writing.
2. Write Every Single Day
Well, maybe not, though I try to do so. But really, make a writing schedule if you want to make money on the Yahoo! Contributor Network. Divide your time into planning, research, writing, proofreading, etc., and you will be able to write articles more efficiently. Make a daily or weekly goal (or bi-weekly or whatever schedule works for you). Stick to it. That last part is the most essential. If you make a schedule and don’t follow it, you have not only wasted your time making a schedule, you are wasting your time with unorganized writing.
3. Spend Time Promoting
Don’t forget page views. You get paid every time someone looks at one of your articles as well, and page views are especially important to continue making money on your articles. In fact, some articles only make page view income, so spend a little time each day or every other day or however you have worked out your schedule promoting your articles if you want to continue to make money on the Yahoo! Contributor Network.
Hint: Try websites like StumbleUpon. There are lots of others like it, though I prefer to use StumbleUpon. You sign up for an account and then you can submit your articles to be added to the list of websites StumpleUpon randomly generates for users when they click “Stumble” on the website.
Hint: Utilize social networking. Your friends and family are a great way to get page views. My mother doesn’t know much about the internet, but she reads my articles anyway.
4. Don’t Forget the Other Authors
The other Contributors on the Yahoo! Contributor Network are in the same boat you are. Read their articles and leave a comment so that they know you read it (even if you just say “Page view love :D” or something to that effect – they will appreciate it), and you will receive page views in return. You might even build a base of fans and subscribers.
Don’t forget to favorite or subscribe to Contributors whose content you generally enjoy reading. If you are a frequent reader for them, they might return the favor.
Spend a little time in the Forums as well, especially if you have questions or the like. You can also promote some of your pieces in the proper forum, which will guarantee you at least a view page views.
But do not, under any circumstances, be selfish or one-sided. It’s a two-way street, and you have to give page views to receive page views.
5. Learn about SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Making money article writing on the Yahoo! Contributor Network or any other article hosting site requires knowledge of SEO. If you want people to be able to find your article by searching for it, you have to know how to utilize SEO so that they can find your articles.
The proper use of keywords and tags can make the difference between ten page views and a thousand page views. Even if the ten-view article is the best you have ever written, it doesn’t matter on the internet if no one sees it.
6. Click Around Other Contributors Articles and Note the Ads
If you have not noticed already, every article has advertisements located throughout the article. This is a large part of how the Yahoo! Contributor Network makes its money and is able to pay you for your articles and page views. Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the types of ads that are being placed in the articles. Check out articles that are in the same category or line of topic that you want to write about or are likely to write about in the future.
Ad placement is part of the calculation when coming up with an offer for your piece. If your article relates to the ads in that category better, then you will make more money on that particular article.
The Truth About Making Money Writing Articles on the Internet
If you want to know the real truth about writing articles on the internet, then you only need to know this bit of information: the internet wants lots of content; wants it fast; and wants correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. The shorter and simpler an article is, the better. Be keyword-rich (but don’t overdo it or search engines will mark your article as spam).
Write fast. Write a lot. Write properly.
Of course, there are a lot more in-depth strategies and plans, but on the surface, those are the rules you need to follow if you want to make money writing articles for the Yahoo! Contributor Network or want to make money writing articles for any other website.
