When a reader of my wedding blog asked me for ideas for a wishbone themed wedding, I found myself completely stumped. I had to do a lot of research, but I found some really amazing items and came up with some great ideas to incorporate wishbones into your wedding.
If you are a DIY type of bride, my suggestion to you is to pick up this Wishbone Hand Carved Rubber Stamp. They have to be custom ordered from this seller, but she does a great job and they only run around $10. With this stamp your could customize just about anything to make it fit with your wishbone theme. If the suggestions that I have made below are out of your price range, you could make your own custom version by having this stamp or making your own. Just pick up some ink, acrylic paint, and/or fabric paint and your options are limitless.
Wishbone Themed Wedding Invitations
Wishbone themed wedding invitations can be extremely difficult to find. On Etsy you can pick up Wishbone Wedding Invitations for $15 and the seller can also create matching RSVP cards, save-the-dates, menus, and programs. You may want to choose a DIY option for for your wishbone wedding invitations or try submitting a request on Etsy Alchemy where Etsy artisans bid for the chance to make your invitations/save-the-date cards.
Wishbone Themed Wedding Cake
If you are looking for a way to incorporate your wishbone theme into your wedding cake, I have a couple suggestions for you which could apply to your wedding cake, grooms cake, or to cupcakes. One option is to have your baker create a cake shaped like a wishbone or have wishbones stenciled on with powdered sugar (check out this example from Martha Stewart). Another option is to use a wishbone as a cake topper or to garnish one of the tiers of your wedding cake. You could also try making candy wishbones with this Wishbone Candy Mold to make your cake decor fully edible.
Wishbone Themed Wedding Bouquet
To incorporate wishbones into your bouquet you can purchase a vintage wishbone brooch to clip to the handle of your bouquet or attach it to a long piece of floral wire to be an accent to the floral part of your bouquet. You could also do this with a real or wooden wishbone.
Wishbone Themed Wedding Jewelry
Since Jennifer Aniston wore a wishbone necklace in “He’s Just Not That Into You”, wishbone jewelry has become quite popular and easy to find. These Sterling Wishbone Earrings cost $28 and are a great piece of jewelry for the bride and bridesmaids in a wishbone themed wedding. The same shop carries a matching Sterling Good Luck Wishbone Necklaces for $22.
Wishbone Themed Groom and Groomsmen Accessories
The groom and groomsmen should pick up a set of silver wishbone cuff links for their suits to incorporate the wishbone theme into their wedding attire. You can also purchase Wishbone Screen Printed Neck Ties for $40 (or save money and make your own if you have the wishbone rubber stamp that I mentioned before).
Wishbone Themed Wedding Favors
If you want to give wishbones as the actual wedding favors, check out Three Faux Wishbones and Bag which come with a small cotton bag printed with a wishbone and “Best Wishes” and contains three plastic wishbones in each bag for $12 or the Wishbone Party Pack which is a box of 24 wishbone party favors for $17.50. If you have a different non-wishbone idea for your wedding favors, you can still tie in wishbones by using cotton or muslin bags and stamping a wishbone on the outside.
Wishbone Wedding Reception Ideas
Try making DIY place cards by stamping wishbones and names (you can buy typewriter alphabet stamps to spell them out) onto river rocks.
Check out this Wishbone Hand Printed Linen Tea Towel. At $24 per tea towel, this could be quite expensive if you want to provide them for each guest to use (especially considering they would need to be hand washed afterwards). My suggestion for this item is to hang it up and use it as a backdrop for your wedding photo booth! Or you could save money and use the wishbone rubber stamp to make your own cloth napkins or photo booth back drop.
What wishbone themed wedding would be complete without a Silver Wishbone Ice Tong for $15?
And Martha Stewart has a wishbone napkin ring tutorial which you can use real wishbones or the Wishbone Party Pack to create.
