“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”
It has been over four years since The Name of the Wind was released. One of my favorite books of all time, it is one of those rare books that made me so distraught when I reached the last page that I immediately flipped it back to the first page to read it again. The highly anticipated second installment of the Kingskiller Chronicles – Wise Man’s Fear, will finally be released March 1, 2011.
Though I am admittedly a fan of fantasy novels, I agree with the A.V. Onion Club in that “the Name of the Wind is one of the best books told in any medium…” Winner of the Quill Award, Publishers Weekly Book of the Year, and the Alex Award by the Young Adult Library Services Association, it surpasses its genre because what makes this book truly great is not its fantastical elements (which are so believable that it doesn’t even seem like fantasy at all), but rather “what it has to say about common things: ambition, failure, love, life, loss” (Tad Williams).
If you’re fortunate enough to live close enough to one of the following cities, you can meet the author on his offical book signing tour. The tour schedule is posted below, and can also be seen on Patrick Rothfuss’ official site. The following schedule was official as of January 12th 2011, but is subject to change as, a few weeks ago, Virginia Beach was on the schedule but has apparently been canceled since then.
