In the 25th season of her own show, Oprah will take a career leap and launch the Oprah Winfrey Network come Jan. 1. Oprah Winfrey is a talk show icon and one of the most influential women in America, if not the world. Since 1996, Oprah has gifted her studio audience with some of her favorite things.
The businesses featured on Oprah’s favorite things have been the benefactors of “The Oprah Effect.” The Oprah effect can be translated simply: If your product is mentioned on the Oprah show, it can possibly raise annual profits to millions and maybe billions of dollars.
The Oprah effect was evident for Spanx shape wear in 2000, when Oprah chose it as one of her favorite things. After being featured on Oprah, “The company has helped millions of women feel a size smaller and made $350 million in retail sales along the way,” according to CNBC.
After 14 years of the Oprah effect benefiting a variety of businesses, Oprah’s popularity and influence will most likely lead to the success of her own network. For starters, she has created an eclectic line of TV programs that is sure to please a variety of viewing audiences.
Many of the shows are due to premiere in January, with others starting later in the year. Here are a few of the shows that will premiere in January:
Oprah’s All Stars: (Premieres Jan. 2 at 8/7c )
Three of Oprah’s top gurus, who all have their own show, are put together on one stage to answer viewers’ questions on their overall health, finances and even relationship issues. Dr. Phil, Suze Orman and Dr. Mehmet Oz will surely captivate the American audience by answering those tough questions.
Your OWN Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star: (Premiers Jan. 7 at 9/8c.)

Watch hopeful contestants go through grueling tasks that will prepare them for the high honor of their own show. The last one standing will be crowned Oprah’s Next TV Star.
Cristina Ferrare’s Big Bowl of Love: (Premieres Jan. 3 at 3:30/2:30c.)
Christina Ferrare opens her home to viewers as she impresses them with her delectable dishes. You will fall in love with her warm demeanor, humorous antics and her love of food. These are just a few shows that the OWN will cover. The Oprah network currently has 15 shows lined up for next year, including programs with Rosie O’Donnel, Shaniah Twain and Lisa Ling, to name a few. These stars already have a huge base of fans, which should translate to high ratings for the network.
“I look at this launch as the birthing of a baby, not the raising of a child,” said Oprah. “I’m prepared for all the critics, I’m prepared for all the naysayers and the ya-da-ya’s.”
Only time will tell if Oprah will keep her dedicated viewers and pick up new ones at the launch of her own network. Be sure to check the Oprah show website for local listings and more information on the launch of OWN.
