“The Office” will soon be losing its regional manager, Michael Scott. Fans of the show are now asking who will replace Michael Scott as the boss on “The Office”? Dunder Mifflin Sabre would not have to bring in a new hire. Several current employees at the Scranton branch could replace Michael Scott as the regional manager.
Jim Halbert (played by John Krasinski)
Jim is probably the favorite to replace the departing Mr. Scott. Jim has already served as co-manager in the past, and although his decision-making was not perfect, he did grow into a more capable manager over time. Jim decided to return to sales because he could earn more money in the sales position because of Sabre’s commission structure.
Jim could be the new boss of “The Office” because the employees (excluding Dwight) like him and generally look to him for guidance. However Jim would not take a pay cut to accept the position, especially now that he is a father. On the negative side, Jim is admittedly lazy at times and looked foolish during the entire reign of Charles Miner in Season Five (wearing a tuxedo to work, kicking Meredith with a soccer ball). Outlook: “The Office” will surprise the audience and not pick Jim to replace Michael Scott.
Kelly Kapoor (played by Mindy Kaling)
Kelly would be an interesting pick as new regional manager. She is being groomed in a management program targeting minority applicants, although that plot line has received little air time. Why would Dunder Mifflin Sabre spend time and recourses on such a program if the company had no intention of actually place participants in managerial positions?
Kelly could definitely replace Michael Scott’s quirkiness and cluelessness. Her scenes talking to the documentary cameras are always her best lines of any given show. However, it is still difficult to take Kelly seriously as a professional. She seems more obsessed with Kim Kardashian and former boyfriend Ryan than with the rather monotonous duties of a branch manager. Outlook: Kelly would be a great pick as new boss for “The Office!” Imagine the new office dress code!
Darryl Philbin (played by Craig Robinson)
Darryl could replace Michael Scott as the new regional manager. He has already proved himself to be one of the more intelligent and creative characters on the show, even earning his own office (while most of the workers must share desks). Darryl has already shared creative ideas with Gabe, making Michael look foolish and childish in the process. Darryl is the only employee other than Jim and Ryan to possess any managerial experience. He manages the warehouse operations and dealt with numerous Michael Scott blunders (Michael knocking over numerous shelves, Michael putting coupons on shipments to the company’s largest client).
Darryl has few negatives. He is older and more mature than Kelly. He has grown into a kinder person over the past two seasons, bonding with employees like Andy and Oscar. Plus, his dry sense of humor is perfect for “talking head” scenes with the documentary staff. He could replace Michael Scott as the boss of “The Office!” Outlook: This is the best decision the producers and writers of “The Office” could make! Darryl needs more air time and he is the perfect fit!
