Climate Change is a major problem here. Whether we want to admit it out loud or not, in one way or another we all know it. With that knowledge, most of us who understand the reality of the situation, want to do something about it.
Its sad that in the world we live in, anything worth doing has to cost someone something financially somewhere. Its how our society is set up. No matter what we do, we are going to spend money doing it.
The same is true with solving the climate crisis. If we didn’t live in a world where money didn’t factor in so heavily on issues, we would have had this thing solved a long time ago. But it does and that’s just the way it is. But the argument now is not, should we pay, but rather, who should pay?
Now a lot of finger pointing has been done. Oil companies and other energy companies have been pointed to as needing to pay, as has business in general. Then there is the governments that have fingered as needing to pay into the solution. Ive even heard that people in general are pointed at as needing to pay. But which is the right solution? Who should pay?
really…all of the above! Every company, every industry, every person that relies heavily on what modern industry supplies should pay into this. After all we all avail ourselves of their products every day, which maintains the need for them to be supplied to us. That being the case if we didn’t have a need for these things they wouldn’t be made in the first place, we wouldn’t have this problem.
Now that’s not to say that people in the third world countries should pay as well. They barely have access to clean water, let alone the dirty energy that we have available to us. So no, it would be an irresponsible and selfish thought that they should be involved in this.
But us, the modern world, needs to start taking responsibility for our actions. Its not a question of when the proof is there anymore, because the proof has been there for years. A recent article that I did even pointed to a group of American scientist’s from The American Geophysical Union that is now defending climate science. So except for maybe a choice few climate scientists, the science is indeed settled.
As for me. I’m willing to pay a little more to help green industry grow and flourish in order to replace the old dirty ways that we seem to be death gripped on. I would feel the same way if I owned a business. A extra five bucks out of my paycheck or in my yearly taxes just does not bother me.
