Christina Aguilera, 30, was arrested in the early morning Tuesday in Los Angeles for public intoxication. Aguilera was the passenger in the car driven by her boyfriend, Mathew Rutler, who was pulled over after officers observed him driving “in a manner that made them believe he was under the influence.”
Aguilera was “so intoxicated she couldn’t take care of herself,” sheriff’s department spokesperson Nicole Nishida said. She was booked on a misdemeanor charge and released on $250 bail.
This is just the latest in issues Aguilera has seen over the past year. Her latest album, Bionic, has failed to get the singer back to her Genie in a Bottle days, selling just 250,000 copies to date. The poor album sales led to the cancellation of her U.S. tour. Couple those professional issues with one of the biggest personal issues a person could have, the divorce from husband Jordan Bratman, and Aguilera was primed to hit rock bottom.
The whole world saw her flop of the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XLV in February. She was so confident prior to the appearance that she didn’t even finish her rehearsal of the song. That was a big mistake. She said in a statement she got lost in the moment.
“I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and the true spirit of its anthem still came through,” she said following the incident.
She attempted to rebound at this year’s Grammy Awards, singing with some of the greatest female stars of today and did a great job. It looked like she was back only weeks after falling, but then she fell. Literally fell. Everyone has fallen before, so it’s hard to speculate why she fell. Maybe there was water on the stage, dress was too long, too much to drink before. There are many possible explanations for this, but nobody knows for sure but Aguilera.
The latest incident would not have come to fruition had she not stupidly gotten into a car with a highly intoxicated person. A report says that friends of Aguilera’s have been trying to get her into a rehab facility for several weeks, which means she’s been on a spiral down for some time. It’s hard to blame her for all her recent struggles, but you just hope that people have fun but do it in a smart way.
If there is one thing people in the United States love more than anything, it’s a great success story. Aguilera was one of the biggest stars in the world, and now she’s fallen on hard times. If she can rebound from these issues and jump back into the spotlight, she’ll be back to before she was Dirrty.
