John Hancock Observatory
A gorgeous, 360 degree view of Chicago and beyond (Michigan, Indiana…) awaits you on this very tall building. You can take a tour from the top and learn about Chicago’s history or just be dazzled, day or night by the panoramic view. Go to their cafe, it is the highest cafe in Chicago, have a glass of wine and an appetizer all the while enjoying that view. 12 and over $21, ages 3 – 11 $16, under 3 is free.
Tall Ship Windy
Take a sailing trip on the Tall Ship Windy. Learn about pirates who used to sail on the Great Lakes, or one of their 60, 75 or 90 minute daily tours that are never the same because of the winds. A great way to see the lake as well as learn some Chicago history. Check for times and seasonal activity.
Granted, a lot of cities have Planetariums, but they are always a great place to visit, no matter where you are. And Adler Planetarium in Chicago is one of them. They have three different theaters, a place to eat a packed lunch as well as buy lunch, and tons of science exhibitions. Great for the whole family. Check for days where they maybe discounted admission. General Admission (without shows) is $10 for adults, $6 for kids ages 3 – 11 and under 3 free. Seniors are $8 for General Admission.
Chicago History Museum
A wonderful way to learn all about Chicago and it’s fascinating history. With exhibitions, old and modern, there is so much to learn. An education experience, perhaps for adults and older children. Free on Mondays. $14 for adults 12 and under free. Dining available.
Gray Line Hop on Hop Off Trolley Tour
Another fabulous way to see and tour the city of Chicago. With different tours to choose from, the panoramic tour, historic South Shore tour, the holiday lights tour and more, you can see Chicago in all it’s glory from different angles. Anywhere from $25 – $65 per tour unless you choose one that includes an overnight or more than 2 hours. Check website for prices.
One of the great Aquariums in this country, there are many exhibits to explore: Wild Reef, Waters of the World, and more. Also explore their animals: otters, Sea Jellies, sharks and so many more. A great place for a family trip. There are different tickets for different packages, but the most general admission is $26.95 per adult, $19.95 for children 3 to 11.
