What to Do when God Seems like He is Not Listening

by tree pony

One of the most difficult things about living as a human being involves understanding the limitations that come along with it. For those that believe in God, these limitations can seem so big that they overwhelm us.

After all, God is…..God. He is the Alpha and Omega.

How in the world would He hear little old me? More importantly, why would He want to hear me in the first place? The way I complain sometimes, I would not hold it against Him if He regularly used that giant mute button in the sky upon hearing my voice.

Yet, this is not the case with the God that I know and love. When we take a look at the scriptures, we consistently see a God that wants to know us intimately, and hears our every lamentation. One of my favorite verses in the Bible shows this incredible connection that we share with God. David is talking about God when he says…

“Though the Lord be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.” – Psalm 138 -6

It is interesting to me that he notes that pride can get in the way. Even the prideful are not out of God’s reach, but they have a much harder journey. Why would that be?

As a Christian man trying to live right, this means to me that the Lord is constantly trying to break us down and teach us to live for Him, and let go of the things of the World. Only in doing this, can we truly feel the presence of the Lord, and hear His plan for our lives.

When I pray, I have to remind myself that my prayers are not supposed to be selfish or prideful in nature. I am not the one with the answers here. I am the one asking for answers. I am not the one that has the map, rather, I am the one asking for directions. I need to come to Him with reverence, and thanksgiving for all He has given us. Asking Him for His directions need not involve my own pride. He has the answers I seek, and they may or may not match up with my own, after all.

When you pray to God, He hears you. It does not matter whether you are the lowest person on the totem pole of life, or the richest man on the planet. If you are a prisoner that has spent a lifetime breaking every rule, and if you are truly seeking God and His voice, He will be there. Never feel as though God is not listening to you. He hears every word.

If you are having trouble feeling His presence, then start to look closer at how you are praying. Are you concentrated solely on what you want, or are your praying for His wisdom and grace? Are you remembering to listen and be still? If not, then how do you expect to receive an answer? Rethink what you are praying for, and pray with a mind towards faith in God’s wisdom. He already knows what you want. He already knows what you need. He already knows what you are praying for.

Pray for His wisdom to bring His will to fruition in your life, and you will get your wildest dreams and then some…In God’s perfect time.
