The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) is an independent Baptist church known for its extreme stance against homosexuality and its protest activities against service men and women who paid the ultimate price while defending this country. The Kansas based church is an example of extremism popularly practiced by the radical Muslim jihadists, against the west. In a country well known for its rights and freedom to do as one wishes, the Westboro church violates these rights and freedoms by creating a hostile psychological as well as emotional environment to those in grief.
The Kansas based church operates like a cult, with its members brainwashed about God and the lives of those they target. Their main objective has been to drive fear through the hearts of Americans, by claiming that they will not be going to heaven, or God is punishing Americans. They explain these perceptions by using events that are taking place daily such as the frontline news of the American forces, or death of a prominent member in the society, and natural occurrences such as tornadoes and hurricanes.
They have placed themselves above humans, with ethnocentric minds, spelling doom to ordinary Americans, as if they are safer than everybody else. This judgmental attitude they portray against people, does more harm to them, than good. The sad part is that, they seem brainwashed by their leader Fred Phelps, who thinks he is pure before God and everybody else is headed for hell, making arguments such as, ‘The wife of former Senator John Edwards is “going to hell” because she admitted to doubting her faith when her oldest son died in 1996.’ They have raised their kids to hate people, according to www.abc.com, seven year old Boaz Drain and his six year old sister, faith, were featured holding placards saying the ‘world is doomed’, and ‘God hates fags’, which is in complete violation of the teachings of Christ. No human is to make judgment on others. Yes, their message is distorted, owing to the teachings that, Jesus came to save the lost, heal the sick, and above all, show love to man. John 3:16.
The westboro church is more of a destructive form of a cult, for its members get exploited by its leaders, who take advantage of their vulnerability, by using issues regarding homosexuality, war and abortion to bring about thoughts of reform. Clearly, they don’t understand the details behind these issues, and what the Bible says about them, or what other churches have to say about them. Neither do they understand the purpose of the coming of Christ.
