My season record now stands at 27-25 with another successful week with my only loss coming with the pick of the Titans over the Jaguars thinking that the Titans would be able to roll out of their tail spin but it didn’t happen.
Josh McDaniels is now the 3rd coach to be shown the door this season due to poor performance and I think we will see another 3 to 4 at season’s end if not before.
Moving on to my week 14 picks.
Game #1-Kansas City Chiefs @ San Diego Chargers:
The Chargers are a very interesting team. I just keep thinking they are going to go on a run and they keep on playing inconsistent. The Chargers had a prime opportunity last week to beat the Raiders and thanks to some timely turnovers the Raiders rolled over the Chargers.
The Chargers have their back against the wall and a loss this week to the upstart Chiefs would be a big blow to the Charges playoff chances.
The Chiefs just keep winning games with a good run game and a QB that is a good decision maker. The Chiefs have the #1 run Offense and Matt Cassel has thrown 23 TD’s vs. 4 INT’s.
What if: If the Chiefs can follow the Raiders path and jump on the Chargers early and run the ball well to keep the Chargers Offense off the field they can win this game.
Prediction: Chiefs 17 Chargers 31
Game #2 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Washington Redskins
Looks like Shanahan has finally had enough of Albert Haynesworth for one season and suspended him without pay for the rest of season for conduct detrimental to the team. I am always amazed when I see players act out I wonder if they think acting like this is a great selling point for their next team.
I expected more out of the Redskins this year and thought with the players they had that Shanahan could get things turned around this season. I however do believe next season we will see a markedly better Redskins team.
The Buc’s are playing for a Wild Card spot at this point and every game will be crucial for them. The Buc’s have not beaten a team with a winning record this season but compared to last at least they are beating teams. Although the Buc’s are playing for a Wild Card spot I think they are a year away and look for the home team to play well and win this one.
What if: If the Buc’s can put pressure on McNabb and forces him into bad throws they can win this game.
Prediction: Buccaneers 21 Washington 23
Game #3- Oakland Raiders @ Jacksonville Jaguars:
This game pits two teams that, in most eyes, have over achieved. They really mirror each other in many ways. Offensively they run the ball well, the Raiders ranking 3rd with the Jags ranking 2nd in the league and both struggle with the passing game ranking 28th and 29th respectively.
Defensively is where the separation happens with these teams. The Raiders rank 13th in total yardage given up while the Jags rank 25th. The Raiders also lead the league in sacks with 36 while the Jags come in ranked 24th with 21 for the season.
I am going with the road team this week because I think they are in need of this win more so than the Jags. With a loss the Jags will still find themselves, at worst, in a 1st place tie.
What if: The Jags can put good pressure on Campbell forcing Int’s they can win this game.
Prediction: Raiders 27 Jaguars 21
Game #4 – Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans:
I think knowing that the Colts have 17 players on the injury report speaks volumes to why they set at 6-6 in a must win game against a Division foe who also is struggling at 5-7.
Peyton Manning has thrown 8 TD’s and 11 Int’s in the last 3 games, which is indicative of having a lot of new receivers that he is directing on Offense due to the injuries that have hit the Colts this year. Just as a note prior to the last 3 games Peyton threw only 4 Int’s for the season.
The Titans have struggled, ranking 30th in passing yards and 12th in rushing yards Offensively. Defensively the Titans rank in the bottom third of the league in most categories. Overall the Titans just are not playing well right now and this could roll over into a coaching change at the end of the season. I am getting the feeling that the Titans are in line to bring in some fresh ideas to stimulate this team.
In this game I am going with the Colts. They are in a must win situation and I look for Peyton to come up big tonight.
What if: If the Titans can get Chris Johnson rolling they can win this game.
Prediction: Colts 31 Titans 17
