The English people as well as the entire world are watching as reports are released concerning the Royal Wedding to take place in April. Here are a few tidbits.
Sir Paul McCartney, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1977, has been tapped to sing at Prince William’s Buckingham Palace wedding reception. It was revealed that McCartney, 68 years old, is a vegetarian and may not partake of the meal that is served that day.
The wedding is 100 days away, scheduled for April 29, 2011. Kate Middleton will be the first commoner in 350 years to marry a future king. Diana was not a commoner; she was a royal descendent of King Charles II.
For 300 years, it has been the law in the United Kingdom that royal sons are given preference over older female siblings to succeed to the British throne. That means that if Will and Kate’s first child were to be a girl, she would be passed over if a boy was born later. The rule based on the 1701 Act of Settlement would not be easy to change since it is effective in the 16 Commonwealth countries where Queen Elizabeth II is head of state. Some feel that the wedding of Will and Kate would be the perfect time to enact this change for the second in line to the throne of England who will be King when his father, Prince Charles either dies or abdicates his right to the throne.
Niagara Falls officials have invited Will and Kate to honeymoon in the Honeymoon Capital of the World. Will’s mother and father have been in Niagara Falls in the past and Will and Kate are planning to come to Canada on their honeymoon.
The wedding is 75 days away. Louise Windsor, the Queen’s youngest granddaughter and Prince Edward’s daughter, will be one of four bridesmaids at the royal wedding. Kate’s sister Pippa will be chief bridesmaid for the ceremony at Westminster Abbey. It is expected that Viscount Linley’s daughter Margarita Armstrong-Jones, eight, and three-year-old Grace van Cutsem will accompany the bride. Grace is the daughter of a good friend of Will and Harry. Balmoral in Scotland is the first honeymoon destination. They then plan to fly to Africa.
Mugs and other souvenirs featuring William and Kate are set to flood stores in a sales effort not seen since the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. A comic book, called Kate and William: A Very Public Love Story, will be released to the public just prior to the wedding. Also, a special beer from Castle Rock Brewery called Kiss Me Kate will be brewed just for the occasion. It is said to be elegant, tasteful and British to the core.
