Sliced apples are a great addition to a fresh fruit tray, but only if they do not end up turning brown. Keep them from Turning Brown with Salt Water
Salt is a natural preservative, and it preserves more than just the shelf-life of many types of food. Do not pour the seltzer water or citrus soda down the drain after soaking the apples. It can still be enjoyed. It might have a slightly fruity flavor, but this will add to the appeal. Cube an apple slice or two and add it to the leftover pop or seltzer along with about one-half cup of apple juice for every six-ounce glass. Slightly dampen and dip the rims of the glasses in raw sugar or the decorative coarse variety. Serve it over ice with a fresh apple slice on the rim for a deliciously different cool beverage with sweet appeal.
