But once you feel even the start of a headache, think about what caused it.
Now, it is important to remember that you do not want to immediately take a pain killer the moment you feel a headache. The reason being, when your body consumes about three of these painkillers it slowly builds an immunity to the medication. This will cause your headache to become even worse, as a result, and more frequent, and even more painful. So, make sure that you reserve your turning to pain medications as a sort of last resort option, only to be used when the pain is really terrible and difficult to bear.
Also, medication like acetaminophen, found in many head ache relief medications, can cause damage to your liver if taken too frequently, and that is why you want to make sure you do not consume medication too often.
That means, you might want to try some natural remedies first when you feel a headache coming on. First, think of the last time you ate. If you have a dependency on caffeine already and have not had your usual cup of coffee, a headache is to be expected. As headaches also occur because of stress, it is important to try and calm yourself down sometimes when you have a headache. You can lie in a dark room, as sometimes light can only hurt your head worse if your eyes feel particularly sensitive. You can place a cold compress on your head and lie there quietly and peacefully for about half an hour to an hour till the headache subsides. Things like tea can help relieve a headache, as well.
