The Verizon iPhone release date was finally made official. During a press conference, the announcement that the Verizon iPhone release date will come in February was made. This is big news in the tech sector, especially because Apple and AT&T have been teamed up for so long in what seemed like a monopoly of the hot new products. Now fans of the iPhone will finally have a choice where they take their business.
According to Verizon, the Verizon iPhone release date is set to be Feb. 10, 2011, when consumers will be able to go to Apple stores and begin purchasing their new toy. That will be the day the phone goes “wide” for sales, but it won’t be the first day you can purchase one of the new Verizon iPhones. Pre-order sales with for the Verizon iPhone will begin on Thursday, Feb 3, and it is already expected that it is going to be a huge day for both Verizon and Apple.
The news about how the phones will be sold was also part of the Verizon press conference. The first price point for the iPhone is going to be $199 for a 16 GB, with a 32 GB model also being sold for $299. A Verizon mobile hotspot will also be included with the more expensive version, capable of supporting up to five mobile devices at the same time. Sounds like a good option if you are looking for a phone that will be able to hold just about any Apple app that you can think up.
The Verizon iPhone is also going to be a version of the iPhone 4, meaning it has FaceTime, a 5-megapixel camera, multitasking capabilities, and HD video recording and editing. It is a really nice phone if you are a fan of iPhones, but there is also something extremely important to consider when deciding if you want to be one of the first out there to have one of the new iPhones. That consideration is just how long it will be before you want to spring for an upgrade to your iPhone, or if you are going to be satisfied with the iPhone 4 for the full two years of your contract.
Why is it going to be a consideration so soon? Because the Apple iPhone 5 is going to be made available starting in July. The Huffington Post confirmed that the iPhone 5 will be released on both the AT&T and Verizon networks at that time, so it will be an almost immediate upgrade on what people purchased in February. Now current Verizon customers and potential new Verizon customers will have to make the decision if they want to buy an iPhone 4 in February to stay ahead of the game, or wait for July for the much better version.
