Valentine’s Day is less than a month away and restaurants will be booked very quickly, so now is the time to plan and make your dinner reservations.
Angelenos, here is your guide to my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles for a romantic dinner with your significant other.
Villeta is a newbie opening in February and it is expected to be a winner. It is located in the former location of Chez Mimi across from the Brentwood Country Mart.
The space is a historical landmark that was designed by John Byers in 1926. When dining, you will have the feeling of being in a Mediterranean villa. In the courtyard there are fruit trees and potted herbs that will be harvested for cocktails, desserts, and house-made gelatos.
Animal located at 435 N Fairfax in West Hollywood is the project of former Food Network stars Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo who have dubbed themselves the “Food Dudes”.
Animal is a shrine to bacon and you can find bacon in any and everything including their chocolate desserts. You will go gaga over their crisp, salted hominy and their bubbling melted cheese spiked with strips of chorizo.
At Bastide located at 8475 Melrose Place, you will enjoy a quiet, upscale atmosphere and a luxurious dinner with your significant other. Chef Joseph Mahon creates his dinner around the French classics and uses fresh, farmer’s market produce to create his culinary masterpieces.
For starters, try the Garlic Soup with lobster glace, mushrooms, and thyme. As an entrée, try the Steelhead Salmon Trout which is served with Manila clams, Gnocchi, Fennel, and an Herb Salad. For dessert, share the Chocolate Souffle with Chantilly.
Simon L.A. located at 8555 Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles inside the Sofitel hotel is great for those looking for an upbeat atmosphere. Chef Kerry Simon was dubbed by Rolling Stone Magazine as the “Rock n’ Roll Chef”.
They have a special Valentine’s Day menu. For starters have the California Oysters, three raw Mignonette and three Yuzu Rockefeller. For your main course, try the Surf & Turf, seared Beef Tenderloin served with Broccolini, Hawaiian Blue Prawns Lemongrass and Ginger Scampi.
Another great choice is the Prime Tomahawk for two which is served with baby sweet potatoes and haricot verts. For dessert try either the Dark Chocolate Molten Cake or the French Macarons Tasting (or both).
Happy Valentine’s Day to all you lovers out there and may your day be filled with love and plenty of romance.
