Kimono sleeves. Bright yellow. Wide leg pants. Neutral colors. Full skirts with varying hemlines. Trench dresses.
This spring, there are so trends that will be on store racks and potentially, in your closet. But be wise? What do you need? What will flatter your figure best? And even more important, what is acceptable in your workplace?
I’m planning to be ready to spring forward in 2011 with three great blasts from fashion’s past. Inspired by the 60s and 70s, my “must haves” are sophisticated, classic pieces that will be wearable for seasons to come!
The High Waisted Trouser
Say goodbye to the muffin tops caused by low rise slacks and skinny jeans. The high waisted, wide leg trouser is back with a vengeance! For early spring, staple colors such as black and gray will look great paired with a fitted blouse and a bold belt and flats for work.
If you work in a business casual office, be sure to add a pair of wide leg denim trousers to your work wardrobe-which will look great with military inspired jackets or a solid chartreuse colored cardigan-two trends for this season also.
I’m really in love with the idea of having a swingy, A-line coat for this upcoming season. It’s a versatile piece that can be paired with opaque black tights, booties and sleek pumps for the workplace. I plan on purchasing in one of the colors that will be quite popular this upcoming season: either burnt orange, bright yellow or a spunky lime green.
A Full Skirt
Like the pencil skirt of last season, the full skirt is sleek, sexy and sophisticated. The hemlines are varying from knee skimming to below mid calf. And like the hemlines, these skirts are coming in solid colors and patterned materials.
I have a confession to make: I was not totally sold on the full skirt idea-I’m short and full figured and often feel like too much fabric makes me appear frumpy. However, after much thought, I’m ready to get at least one full skirt for the upcoming season. I plan to purchase one that hits right above the knee and match it up with a fitted cardigan in a solid color and mid-heeled pumps.
All of three of these items are classic and sexy pieces that will take you daytime professionalism to nigh time sophistication with a few minor additions. Team up the trousers or full skirt with a sheer blouse and cardigan with nighttime allure. The A-Line coat can also be worn in the evening with slim jeans and boots.
So what are your fashion must-haves for Spring 2011? Is it the trench dress? Kimono sweater or military inspired jacket? Whatever you wear, wear it well!
