Toyota/Lexus Issues a recall of 2006-9 Lexus Models
According to the New York Times, the GS300-350 series as well as the IS250-350 series sedans are subjects of a recall for all models dating from 2006-2009. The company states that an error when assembling the fuel line system could cause components to loosen and leak fuel. The malfunction causes a hazard to both drivers and the environment.
But Wait! I own a 2006 GS300! What Does this mean to me?
About this time last year, I received a notice in the mail stating that my vehicle was part of the recall. It was recommended that I bring my vehicle to the nearest Toyota/Lexus dealership to have repairs completed at no charge to me. The notice was simple and to the point. Of course, like any caring car owner, I headed down to the dealership where I purchased the car such a short time ago.
When I showed up at the service center, the manager told me that I was welcome to leave the vehicle in their lot until the repairs were complete. He mentioned that they were backlogged at least half a week due to the recall and warned against driving the vehicle until they had completed the authorized repairs.
Fortunately, the dealership offered me a rental vehicle free of charge until the job was done. I don’t know if this was courtesy of the dealership or of Toyota/Lexus itself, but it was the least I expected considering my car was being repaired due to an issue I had no fault in creating.
The repairs were done within a reasonable amount of time. I can’t say that I really notice a difference in the way the car operates. Since I have no idea how the mechanics of a vehicle operate, I don’t even know what they actually fixed. The service tech at the dealership said they made repairs to the fuel system in order to avoid corrosion that could cause the car to leak gasoline, but they had not actually noticed any damage or residue that shows my car was actually damaged in anyway (thankfully).
Overall, I was very satisfied with the service I was offered through the dealership and Toyota/Lexus. I was provided with timely recommendations for repairs and given excellent service upon arriving at the dealership. To be honest, I wish all companies would treat their customers this well. I still love Lexus despite the recall. I don’t think it tarnished their reputation in any way, at least not for me!
I still recommend Lexus to anyone who can afford them. They beat other high-end models any day!
