Sad to say I never officially graduated from high school with the rest of my class, never attended my senior prom and barely remember grad night… So many regrets I wish I could go back and fix, but without those experiences, I would not be who I am today. Proud to say, I am glad I screwed up, moved on and became the person I always wanted to be.
Unfortunately, we are not the youth of today and unless we sit them down, ask them flat out what their graduation song predictions might be for the year and compile the data… We can only guess. If I was 18 again and making those predictions, I would select songs that would help me recall he happier times.
My list is short, but these are the songs that help me recall some of the most amazing years of my life.
Graduation Song Selection #1 – Vitamin C – “Graduation (Friends Forever)”
Originally released in 1999. Is an innocent look at where they were, where they are and where they could be in the future. If you see the video, realizing that if you do not say something now, you may live to regret it.
Graduation Song Selection #2 – John Travolta and Olivia Newton John and Cast – “We Go Together“
Released in 1978 as a compilation of music for the soundtrack to Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John. Catchy doo-wop song that makes you want to get up, dance, sing and have an all around good time.
Graduation Song Selection #4 – Kelly Clarkson – “A Moment Like This“
Released in 2001 after being a fan favorite on American Idol. The song title says it all, at the age of 18, all you know is that graduation is the moment, the moment you live for.
Graduation Song Selection #5 – Glee Cast – “I’ve Had the Time Of My Life“
Episode Aired: 11/30/10. This version is a more modern kick to the original soundtrack version from the movie “Dirty Dancing” sung by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes released in 1987. Young love, something at the age of 18, you believe only happens once. At that age, we believed that we were experiencing all of our firsts, which at that time was a lifetime.
Good luck class 2011. Enjoy the upcoming months; you will have some of your best experiences in the upcoming months.
