In this article I will discuss some of the top overrated, useless, and dangerous car accessories I have ever seen. Some of them pose a hazard either to you or both you, and other drivers.
The Useless Accessories:
Fender vents are one such item. Sure they look cool, sometimes, but what purpose do they really serve? They sound all technical and necessary, but when you go and look at them you realize they aren’t really a vent at all. All they do is decorate your fender on your classic, or not so classic car.
Then there’s the front bumper lips, and chin lips. I don’t know about you, but I think just the idea of my car having lips is hilarious but serves no purpose. Maybe if my car had a brain she would fancy some hot stud of a racer out there. These are just add ons for beauty’s sake. They really are useless.
Next that comes to mind are Chrome body side moldings. I guess this could serve some sort of purpose in preventing scratches from inconsiderate people who slam their doors or buggies into yours. Let’s face it, if someone rams a buggy into the side of your vehicle, Chrome side moldings or not, you are going to get a ding. Again, they are cool looking, I guess.
This list could go on forever! There are so many useless gadgets you can add or put in and onto your vehicle, that it can get ridiculous. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If you just gotta have a special look, we looking don’t mind.
The Dangerous Accessories:
Those super bright fog lights are totally dangerous. Sure they help the vehicle equipped with them, but what about the person they blind on the way past. It’s my opinion that people who cannot see, because of the glare of fog lights in their eyes, are more prone to hit that vehicle coming at them with these shining beams. Where does this leave the vehicle who just had to go all out with fog lights? Wrecked!
LED lights are a danger. They are so blinding to a large percentage of the population. When I’m traveling at night and a car comes at me with LED lights, I go blind for a second or two. I cannot really see until my eyes readjust after we passed each other. This is a very scary situation to be in. They are so bright to the onlooker that they are a tremendous danger to safety.
TV screens in vehicles are dangerous as well. Most cars have a radio, the owner owns and talks on a cell phone either holding it or hands free, then you put visual distractions before the driver? How scary is that? I hope each driver I pass has both hands squarely planted on the steering wheel, their mind engaged in what they are doing, awake from sleeping the night before, and not distracted. If only it was a perfect world.
The new radios with so many capabilities these days are a dangerous accessory because they are so complicated. Most have a CD player, Mp3 capabilities, some sort of adapter for their hand held gadgets or phones. The number of buttons, and how small they are is one danger. Then add to that, the complicated sequences of button pushing you have to do in order to finally play that song that you have been humming all day long; by this time you have run off the road, into a ditch and are threatening flipping over! I see no safety in the complicated car stereo.
There is allot of fun to be had, and allot of money to be made from car accessories. I hope these descriptions of the top overrated, useless, and dangerous car accessories help you when you go to buy or fix up a car.
