Tired of the prices and time frames for movie rentals? Tired of watching movies by yourself? Whether you answered yes to one or both questions, consider the top 6 ways to save on movie rentals.
The following top 6 ways to save on movie rentals are ones that came to mind. There are other ways to save money on movie rentals other than these. There is also Redbox and Netflix’s monthly movie rental options. However, if your budget is no longer allowing you to use those options, the options I am providing can help with your movie watching budget.
Trade With Friends and Family
Get with your friends to see if they are up for movie swaps. You may be surprised at the variety of VHS, DVD, and blu-ray movies they have. You may also be surprised at how many of your friends who have transfered their movies to dvd with the new VHS/dvd converters available on the market.
Check Movies Out at Your Local Library and other Libraries
If you live in a large city, you will have more options of checking out movies at your local library and its branches. I know one small town in my area has movies to check out. I haven’t checked with my local library lately to see if they have this option. Just don’t forget to take them back.
Church Movie Night
Check with your local churches to see if they have a movie night. One of our local churches has a movie night during the summer. Sometimes they extend this during other parts of the year.
Check Your Local Colleges
On occasion I have seen local colleges have a free movie night for students and their friends and families. Depending on the time of year, they will host one a month either indoors or outdoors.
Host a Movie Night
Whether it’s once a week or once a month, host a movie night at your house. Give a list of movies to your family and friends to choose from with the collection you have.
Have them RSVP with their movie choice. The movie that has the most “votes” is the movie of the night. You can provide cheap snacks for your guests. If there will be children attending, if you have the means set up a second area for the kids to pick and choose a movie watch.
Watch Movies Online for Free
There are several sites that allow you to watch old movies online for free. Sites like YouTube and Hulu have free older movies you can watch without an additional cost. Mylifetime.com also has free movies to watch. While their movies are made for TV movies, they are free. You may have not seen them.
Get creative when it comes to ways to save money and watch movies without renting. The same ideas can be used for going to the movies and buying new releases.
