In today’s job market it is very difficult to find a job, so it would be a shame to blow it on your interview when you finally get a call about a job that you have applied for. This may seem lapsable to some, however, I can’t count how many times that I have seen people show up for an interview poorly dressed or no resume and a list of other things that is an immediate turn off to prospective employers. In this article I hope to show you why it is important to sell yourself when you are interviewing for a job and how to sell yourself.
Interviewing for a job: Resume
That’s right no matter how old or experienced you are, you have some type of background that you can put on paper. It might even benefit you to find a professional to help you write your first resume. When someone is interviewing there is nothing worse than showing up empty handed. Another good idea when interviewing for a job is to have enough copies to hand to all the people who are going to be involved in the interview.
Interviewing for a job: Dress professional
This may seem laughable to some, but I can not count the number of times that I have had people interviewing for a job and have them show up looking like a slob. The way you dress when you are interviewing for a job says a lot about the person that you are. You certainly do not want to over dress, but there is also nothing wrong with looking professional and caring about the way that you look. Just how bad do you want that job you are interviewing for?
Interviewing for a job: Be punctual
When you are interviewing for a job and the appointment is 1:00 pm show up at least fifteen minutes early. For one thing it shows the person that you are interviewing with that you tend to arrive before its time for work, and for another it shows that you are really interested in a job.
Interviewing for a job: Have good posture and look them in the eye
In the field of work that I am in we have what is known as an oral board. This is a process where a person that is interviewing sits down in front of several other officers and they ask the individual questions. When the person who is interviewing for a job slouches and or will not look us in the eye that is already points against them.
As I said earlier when you are interviewing for a job it is important to sell yourself. You need to let the prospective employer that you are interviewing with know that you are the best one for the job, and if you follow these suggestions that will aid you in landing your job. Jobs are not easy to come by so when you have the chance at one do everything in your power to impress the person or company that you are interviewing with.
