I won’t tell anyone if you don’t. I know that I spend too much time on Facebook and consider Pop Cap Games a major time sucker of mine. If you’re reading this article, then your secret is safe with me. Pop Cap Games has given upped the time sucking ante from Bejeweled Blitz to Zuma Blitz in the last few weeks. Just like Bejeweled Blitz, Zuma Blitz has a friends scoreboard that prods you along into wanting to be the top frog. Who actually wants have the humiliation of being spanked by the nerd in accounting? If you’re getting mentally tea bagged by your friend’s scores at Zuma, there is hope for you to become the monarch of your digital realm. Here are some tips that have kept me top dog on my Zuma Blitz’s friends list for the last two weeks.
Turn It Up To 11
If you’re playing with your volume down, you’re missing some key auditory clues for capturing extra points. The game makes different sounds when multiplier balls, fruit, and other goodies show up on screen. It’s hard to focus on aiming true and looking for point enhancing swag. The auditory clues will help you know when to look for the special balls that pop up. I would also suggest cranking up some fast beat tunes to keep you frosty during your games.
Be Fruitful and Multiply
The key to racking up a good score is hitting the score multiplier balls. These balls effect most every aspect of scoring. When you see one come up, try to clear it from the board as quickly as possible. Even if you have a juicy combo lined up, hit the multiplier first. Also, don’t forget that when you hit the bonus fruit, the next one that appears is worth more points. It’s worth a slight investment in time for the bonus points. I would also suggest that if you are clearing a narrow gap of balls to hit a bonus fruit, double tap your next shot. Firing two balls in rapid succession will increase your chance of hitting the fruit before the narrow gap closes.
Mind the Gap
Hitting gap shots result in some of the highest point combos in the game. If a gap in the ball chain appears, exploit that gap for as long as you can. Even hitting a 2 ball combo will result in big points.
You’re da Bomb
Using the mojo sucking extras is something you have to experiment with. Personally, I exclusively use the bomb. Bomb balls seem to show up more frequently than other bonus mojo bonus balls. You also have the added benefit of not having to think about your next move when you explode a bomb. With some bonuses, like the triple shot, one will tend to waste time looking for the optimal placement. The other benefit of using the bomb is there is an increased likelihood of opening up a gap after the bomb explodes. Bomb plus gap shots equals big points.
It’s Not Easy Being Green
If you look closely at your rotating frog, you will notice the color of the next ball is in the center of his back. If you click the right button of your mouse, the ball currently in the frog’s mouth will change to the next ball in line. Don’t waste time waiting for a shot to open up with the current ball’s color. Switch out the lame ball if there’s a shot with the next color available.
25 or 6 to 4
Hitting hourglass balls will add 5 seconds to the game’s countdown clock. Peg as many of these as you can. More time means more points. More points means you can smack down the annoying guy in accounting who has been your Zuma bane.
Persistence is a Virtue
As you level up, the game gives you minor perks. These perks range from extra lives to extra mojo earned for combos. One has to keep playing to earn perks, so by all means keep the balls rolling. Anything the game will give you for free is bound to enhance your score.
I hope this helps you put the hurt on your friends. Even if no one on your friends list says anything about having a superior score; they’re thinking it. In the back of your buddy’s mind is the thought, “Na-na-na-boo-boo, I’m better than you”. No one should be subjected to that type of humiliation, even if it is never said. So get on out there mighty frog warriors and knock down some balls!
