When you try to find “Waldo” in a picture, we could spend quite a bit of time looking for him before we find him. If you have never looked at such a picture, then you may be confused at this concept. It is simply a picture with a lot of things in it where we are trying to find one specific thing – (Waldo). When we think of gravity we tend to think that it is always located at the absolute center of a given mass of matter, but this is not exactly accurate. If you have just two atoms of matter and their is a gravitation effect between them, then which one is the actual center. We might think that the center point is the point mid-way between the two atoms, but this logic tends to break down when we consider one lighter atom near a much heavier atom.
When you pan for gold and you swirl the pan of rock and soil, the heavire material (hopefully gold) will be thrown to the outer point. The swirling moves the dense matter of gold to the outer points. Black holes are thought to be turning at a rapid rate. This would tend to drive the heavier materials to the outside of the spin, but gravity would be moving heavy materials to the inside.
Scientists now think that black holes may actually loose materials at their poles. This means that this super dense collection of matter has a central area that may have little or no gravity. It would at least have so little gravity that material could actually be ejected from the black hole. If the black hole is spinning rapidly then it could throw the heavier material outward from the center and this would place the actual force of gravity somewhat outwerd from the center in a way similar to the swirling pan in the gold example.
Our “Waldo” is in this case “Gravity” which we now may have found in a different location than expected. It could in fact mean that gravity in a black hole could be effectively be located near the outer edge of the mass of the black hole. The effect of the black hole would extend outward into space to the “event horizon”, but the mass of the black hole could be in layers and could have a central point without gravity leading to each pole.
There is special equipment that can be used to measure the gravity at any point on the surface of the Earth. As this equipment passes over a spot on the surface of the Earth that has particularly heavy material underneath the surface it will register the difference in gravity.
This means that gravity is located where the most mass is located and the most mass may not be at the center of the mass being considered. This means that the spin of a mass can have a profound effect on the actual location of the gravitational force and that this could be true for a mass like the Earth or even a mass like a black hole.
This could mean that the structure of a black hole is different than we might have first thought and that it may have some dynamic movement created from the spin.
