“The Vampire Diaries” Recap Episode “The Descent”

by tree pony

And the bodies keep piling up…

Much to everyone’s chagrin Rose’s was added to the top of the pile this episode. Oh I know, we all knew it was coming. She was destined to die especially after getting chewed on by that wolf bitch, Jules. But it was still a little bit heartbreaking even if you weren’t a Rose fan.

I think the most heartbreaking part was Damon. He was so sweet and kind to Rose and then he had to put her out of his misery. Oh Ian Somerhalder you are the king of portraying bad boy sensitivity.

That tear… I wanted to console him as once again Damon lost his woman- seems the pretty bad boy won’t ever be able to hold onto a woman he cares for.

The episode started with Rose showing signs of extreme illness and Damon caring for her. Elena and Stefan are playing kissy face until Stefan puts a damper on their make out session with his worries about Elena’s deal with Elijah and the whole Klaus situation. He needs more intel and runs off to find Isobel- just like Katherine told him to do.

Damon leaves to track down Jules and hope to find a cure for Rose. Thus Elena is left alone with a sick and seemingly helpless Rose- that is until Rose starts getting all whacky and delirious and keeps thinking Elena is Katherine therefore trying to kill her. Will no one ever learn not to leave Elena alone? She just can’t be left alone because trouble is drawn to her. Hello? After all these episodes her vampire knights in shining fangs haven’t learned anything yet.

In other parts of Mystic Falls a big Booster Barbeque is going on at the school where we find Caroline chatting with Tyler about his successful transformation and his ability to get through the full moon night until they are interrupted by Matt. One kiss from Matt makes Caroline want to have him as a snack so she takes off.

Back at the Salvatore mansion Elena has locked herself in a room to hide from rabid Rose who wanted to take more than a little bite out of her. After a long bout of quiet she comes out of hiding to find the place empty until Damon walks in. Rose got away. And ran right to the little party at the school and started munching on a janitor then moved on to some barbeque guests.

Damon finds Rose and takes her home to tend to her while Caroline finds Tyler on her doorstep- which leads to her second kiss of the day and the proclamation of “everyone just needs to stop kissing me.”

Meanwhile Damon gets into Rose’s head to comfort her in her dreams- he lets her feel the sun and play in the “field” that was once by her home. She is happy and no longer in pain. Then poor Damon has to push a stake through her heart and end her misery for real. And we see Damon’s single, sad tear.

He then freaks out, gets a little drunk and lays down in the middle of road . Some poor woman stops to help him and after his little freak out he ends up snacking on her to make himself feel better. Nice job Damon. Yeah, don’t ever let us forget how evil you really are.

Tyler ends up back at the grill where Jules sits down for a chat. She tells him she knows what he is and all about the vampires, especially his little lying girlfriend Caroline. And she tells him ominously that furry reinforcements are on their way. Previews show us that, of course, Tyler is going to fall for Jules wolf crap and turn on Caroline.

Why do people do this? Let’s turn on the person that’s been there for us all along just because a stranger comes along with a few similar DNA traits and tells us some bullshit story. Anyone ever hear of getting all the facts before doing something you’re sure to regret? Of course it wouldn’t make for good drama if someone actually did the right thing would it?

Anyway, what happened with Stefan’s search for Isobel? Last we seen him he got a phone call. Did he find her?

When Elena arrives home she finds Stefan in her house and he’s not alone but it’s not Isobel with him it’s Elena’s dear old uncle/daddy John. What kind of information does he have that can help Elena?
