Any episode that shows Damon almost naked not once but twice goes down in history as one of my all time favorite episodes ever.
The producers are working hard to give the female fan base exactly what they want… Damon, Damon and more Damon in all his pale but still very beautiful body glory.
Now that I’m over that momentary distraction I can get on with the recap.
The episode pretty much opens with Damon in the shower (I know something happened before that- but once I caught site of Damon all wet I became a little distracted I’ll try not to get distracted again).
Elsewhere Elena has a tense heart to heart with daddy/uncle John in the kitchen when Jenna and Alaric walk into the shock of John being there. Jenna’s less than happy and pretty much tells him to get the hell out. Then John drops the bomb on Jenna that he’s Elena’s biological father so he can stay there if he wants. Yeah not really John, Jenna’s the legal guardian so you don’t have a say in anything. Of course that isn’t said in the show it’d kinda take away his thunder.
Earlier Tyler had confronted Caroline about his uncle Mason’s death, Damon and Stefan being vamps and the whole sordid situation. Instead of letting her explain he goes all wolfman strong on her and freaks out then runs off. She is upset and tunrs to Stefan for advice and help.
Meanwhile wolfchick Jules drops by to pay Tyler another visit saying it’s her honor and duty to protect him. I just can’t figure out why she wants him so much. Is she just a freak that wants all the little wolves in her pack or is there something special about Tyler? Does he have something to do with breaking the curse? Are they going to use him? Her comment “I want the boy more than I want vengeance” is quite ominous.
Stefan pays Tyler a visit and tries to play nice with Tyler. Tyler is scared, freaks and calls Jules but Stefan stops the call. Not quick enough though because Jules hears enough to pull the pack together and grab Caroline for a little torture the vampire session. Not good at all. Caroline gets locked up in cage, shot with wooden bullets, sprayed with veravine, and shot with what I’m guessing to be wooden or vervaine filled bloew darts. Extreme vampire torture. Poor Caroline.
In the town square John runs into nephew Jeremy who isn’t so happy about Uncle John being back. Bonnie walks into the square as well to be confronted by Dr Martin. Bonnie’s pissed because she knows they used her to get the moonstone for Elijah (yeah finally these characters are putting one and one together to get two instead of being clueless). Jeremy “rescues” Bonnie from her fellow witch and she ends up nestled safely in his arms as they walk away. Are they dating? When did that happen?
Jenna and Alaric are at the Grille and Jenna is bemoaning her strange life- her sister’s husband’s brother is Elena’s biological father and Elena’s mother is her boyfriend’s dead wife. She adds “you can’t make this stuff up”. Poor thing doesn’t even know the half of it- let’s see dead wife isn’t dead she’s a crazy, diabolical vampire and your boyfriend is a vampire hunter who works with the good guys. Alaric looks like he wants to say something but before he can comment John shows up and asks to join them forlunch. Hello awkward. Then walks in Damon and Elena and she convinces Damon to play nice. Damon plays overnice and again we get awkward.
Damon and Elena end up having a private chat after he blows off the newscaster chick Jenna introduces him to which John walks in on demanding to know what’s going on. Then Elena gets a call from Stefan. Damon runs off to help Stefan and tells John to do daddy duty and keep Elena out of trouble.
Stefan confronts Jules in the woods with Tyler. Tyler is so confused he doesn’t know who to trust or what the hell is going to happen. Stefan tries to talk then Damon shows up and he’s not in a talking mood. All hell breaks loose when a whole lot of wolves in men’s clothing come out of the woods. Tyler gets into the camper where Caroline is caged up and he’s unsure about letting her go. Finally he does only to let Jules grab her and put a gun to her head again.
It looks like Damon, Stefan and Caroline are about to be done for until Dr Martin shows up doing some crazy magic that knocks out all the wolves except Tyler. He tells Stefan that Elijah promised Elena nothing would happen to him and he plans to make sure that promise is kept. After the vampires leave Dr Martin also gives Tyler a message to pass on- tell the wolves to get out of town. Yeah like it’s going to be that easy.
At Elena’s John gives her a bracelet that was her mom’s, not Isobel’s but the mother Elena grew up with. He also lays down a bunch of crap about family and keeping her safe. Stefan is lurking in the shadows and comforts Elena when John leaves. She doesn’t believe John. For once her instincts may be spot on.
Back at the Salvatore mansion John gives Damon some intel about how to kill an original- take a special dagger and coat it in the ash from a white oak tree that was around “in the beginning” (uhm the beginning of what and when exactly was that?). Damon looks slightly perplexed as do the rest of us. What’s so special about the white oak and that dagger and what the hell is John up to?
Later we get to Damon’s second bathing scene. This time he favors a bath over a shower and unfortunately he’s not alone. He decided to give reporter chick Andie a call after all. He wants her to be his distraction. (Oh Damon, I’ll be your distraction if I don’t get too distracted first. I won’t even mind if you nibble a little).
As the show starts to wrap up Tyler visits Caroline and she totally goes off on him, understandable after the torture she went through but sometimes it’s better to forgive. Without her forgiveness Tyler runs back to the wolves because honestly who else does he have? Back with the wolves the moonstone is brought up and the wolves look very interested- too interested.
Stefan takes Elena and Bonnie to Caroline’s for some much needed girl time. Could Stefan be any sweeter? Sometimes he makes me want to gag on a wooden stake at how perfect and sweet he can be.
Left alone John makes his way down into the tomb to visit Katherine. She wants out of the tomb and John and Isobel seem to be on her side.
What are they up to now? Last time John and Katherine were together she tried to kill him, what changed? What’s her plan?
Do you think Tyler is going to run with the wolves or will love win out and lead him back to Caroline?
