It seems that everything, which now has to do with education, is becoming digital. Since we live in a digital world, it really is something that can be expected. Recently there has been talk about teachers switching over to digital conferences instead of face-to-face meetings. With any new thing, there are always pros, and cons. After taking the time to speak with several parents, and teachers, I was able to create a pro and con list on the top. Below you will see a list of both. After reading through the list, why not post your thoughts below in the comments section.
One of the benefits, of having teacher conferences digitally is that more parents may be able to be involved in their child’s education. Many parents have felt that they could not be as involved as they would like due to work schedules. Since many parent teachers, conferences are held at certain times of the year it can be difficult for all parents to make it. Many parents feel that having digital conferences will enable them to talk with their child’s teacher, when it is best for them. They will not feel rushed, and can really focus on what the teacher is saying. Many teachers feel that it is a great way to get more parents involved, and help students to make better progress. Technology may be able to help parent teacher relationships, and work towards helping their children get the best education possible. What is also nice about having technology-based conferences is that it does not have to be on certain days of the years. Teachers feel that it will not require them to stay for long hours in the evening waiting for one or two parents. Instead, they can still have face-to-face meetings with those parents who desire it. Those who cannot have an in person conference, can use the digital conference option. Parents would be able to make appointments as needed.
Now that you have read some of the pros that were discussed with, many parents, and teachers look at some of the cons. Some parents felt that this would not work for families who are struggling economically. They felt that some parents in certain school districts might not be able to afford computers to have the digital conferences. The worry that some teachers had is that they say some schools may get rid of face-to-face conferences all together. The result may end up being that fewer parents are able to communicate with their children’s teacher. In addition, many teachers felt that face-to-face meetings allowed teachers to show the work that the children were doing. In addition, teachers would be able to walk the parents around the school and show them a typical day for their children. A digital conference would not allow teachers to do this.
