I got lucky last weekend and snagged a little black dress for $22 at New York & Co. It was 70% off original price and when I showed my AAA card I got an additional discount. The dress will come in handy in the next month when I wear it on four different occasions. My trick to not looking the same at any of these events will be the accessories I use.
The Fancy Gala
My husband’s company is holding a gala to celebrate a milestone for the company. The event is not black tie so my little black dress will be perfect. I went looking for some silver shoes to wear and ended up getting silver shoes and a silver clutch for $15. The shoes and bag are from Payless Shoes and were purchased during their buy one get one half off event. I used my AAA membership perk and received another 15% off. For more bling I found a silver cuff bracket with cubic zirconium diamonds and a pair of matching earrings at J.C. Penney. I originally paid $30 for the set, but when they were advertised for 50% off a few days later I returned to the store and saved another $10. I already have a black throw to wear on top of the dress that I purchased last season at Macy’s for $15. I’m all set for the big night out for a total cost of $72.
My Godson’s Christening
Two weeks after the gala my Godson is being Christened. The church service will include relatives and friends and a big party afterward. The little black dress will again make an appearance after it is was hand washed, not a dry clean only garment luckily. I will pair the dress with a multi colored cardigan fitted at the waist with a slim black belt. The belt came with the sweater which I purchased at Macy’s for $15, after I used my 20% discount coupon. The patent leather belt matches the patent leather black shoes I got off the Macy’s shoe clearance rack for $15. By purchasing the shoes and sweater together I got to use my $10 off of $30 additional discount for a total purchase price of just $20. With earrings and a necklace I already own the total for this outfit is just $42, only $22 if I don’t count the dress again.
The High School Reunion
The little black dress I was able to find is form fitting and shows off the fact that I have lost 55 lbs. and kept it off for 5 years. Most of the people at this reunion haven’t seen me in 30 years, and remember me when I was 72 lbs. heavier. It will be my night to feel really good about myself. To make my waist look even slimmer I will add a thick black nylon belt with a patent leather belt buckle. The belt came with a sweater I got on clearance at Macy’s for $4.99. Love the clearance rack. I’ll wear the same silver shoes and use the clutch, earrings and bracelet from the gala. Total for this outfit without the cost of the dress, just $4.99.
The Job Interview
I will pair the little black dress with a tan blazer and the black patent leather shoes for a job interview I have coming up. The thin patent leather belt will go around the blazer to make it form fitting, this seems to be the look for spring. The blazer was purchased last fall at a Van Heusen outlet store for $12. I’ll accessories the outfit with a pair of gold earrings and a bracelet I won at a charity event, $0 extra cost.
Four events, four different looks for under $112. Of course I will use my coupons and Groupon specials to get a bargain on a manicure and pedicure for the occasions.
