I am working on creating a web series. I guess that you could call it a television show for the web. I have decided that I will write articles throughout the process. It’s sort of a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a web series.
The idea for the series did not come to me at once. It has been a process. I started with the idea to write a show about a family. This family, through meetings with my production team, came to be what it is now.
It is a comedy about a family that is weird. What family is not weird, right? Well, this family is weird even for weird families.
When you are creating a web series you need help. I am fortunate to have several great people helping me. No one on this project is getting paid. So, the help is appreciated.
I began by meeting with several people about the basic idea for a show about a family. Originally it was going to be made for television. Though, television is not out of the question it’s just not where I am going with the show at the moment.
We gathered at a Waffle House a couple of times going over the concept. It changed as ideas were tossed around. I have to give credit to my producers for keeping me focused and moving forward.
We took a tour of a small studio space that we may end up using to shoot on if we have the budget to do so. I would love to shoot on a stage with multiple cameras. I don’t know if we will have the budget for much of anything.
My producer posted a casting notice on different web sites. I have received several submissions from actors. I hope to receive more in the weeks to come.
The plan is to shoot a promo for the series next year. We will hold auditions in January.
The idea for a promo was to shoot a video with no budget so that we would have something to show people when raising money for a budget.
I began writing several promos which are about five minutes long. Originally, the actual series was to be longer but now we are going with the shorter length.
I have written several scripts for the series. I have several more to write. At the moment, my goal is to write twelve scripts not including the one for the promo.
All of the scripts will be about five minutes except for the last one which will be longer.
Now, I write more scripts and wait for the auditions. I will go through all of the submissions as they arrive. I am looking forward to seeing this project develop. You can view the casting notice on my producer’s blog. We are also in need of crew for the promo and the series.
