Jeff Bridges, who recently starred in the new ” True Grit ” movie, was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk visit and have a little fun today.
Jeff Bridges won an Academy Best Actor award in 2010 for “Crazy Heart” and the buzz about Jeff Bridge’s performance is “True Grit” may lead to back to back Academy Best Actor Awards. Ellen DeGeneres asked Jeff Bridges if it put more pressure on him. Jeff said that winning and losing did not pressure him. Giving a speech was the daunting aspect. He told about how he thanked his director last year, only he called him by the wrong name.
According to Jeff, it was his father, Lloyd Bridges who pushed Jeff into the business. When Lloyd Bridges was on “Sea Hunt,” Lloyd would tell his son, “Come on, Jeff. There’s a part for a kid. You get to get out of school.” Jeff said his first memory about acting was giving lines while in freezing cold water. That may not be the best way to get into a career field.
On the other hand, his brother, Beau Bridges, was a little more into acting. Jeff Bridges told a story about how the brothers would pull a flat bed truck into a supermarket parking lot. The brothers would proceed to have a scripted fight. People would try to break them up and they would come clean that they were just acting. Police would eventually show up, and the brothers would try to draw them into the impromptu. When that didn’t work, the brothers would drive on to the next supermarket. They did not keep a tip jar. They did it because they enjoyed performing.
Jeff mentioned that he had a hard time watching movies that he was in. Instead of following the story, he would be recalling all of the details about the filming.
In April, he will have a brand new granddaughter. Ellen DeGeneres gave him a cowboy hat and a western shirt styled “onesy” for the baby, as well as a rocking horse for when the little girl grows up a little.
Ellen DeGeneres asked if he was intimidated to film a remake of a John Wayne roll. He told the Coen brothers that if it was a remake of the movie, he was not interested in it. When he learned that it was based on the book only, he decided to read the book.
Jeff Bridges is the national spokes man for “No Kid Hungry.” According to the Department of Agriculture, 17 million kids are in “a food insecure households,” which translates into one in four kids. Good news is a billion dollars is currently allocated in states to pay for such programs as school lunches and the WIC programs as well as the food stamps. “No Kid Hungry” wants you to contact and work with Governors and mayors to ensure the money is used to feed kids.
Jeff Bridges could win an Academy Award for “True Grit” just as John Wayne did for the same role back in 1969. Jeff Bridges could be one of the few actors to win a back-to-back Academy Award for Best Male Actor.
