The Bible? Some people believe it to be the greatest literature in the world, and million’s believe it to be divinely inspired by YAH (God). Either way, the Bible has been a source of inspiration and comfort to those who are in need. Still others believe, that whether inspired or not, it is difficult to understand. Some people believe that the Bible holds no validity at all, but is a false document leading to an imaginary god. Where do you stand? What are your thoughts about the Bible?
Of course most of us approach the Bible similarly to the way we view life, through our own lenses and perceptions. We each come from different backgrounds and experiences which influence much of our thinking. It is said that no one is completely unbiased. We interpret what we see, hear and read based on our current knowledge and life experiences.
However, reading and studying the Bible, if one is a seeker of truth, must be approached similarly to a court of law . It is called the “rule of law,” which states the rules of evidence, which are the only “rules” allowed when making a determination. As well, when making a judgment In a court of law, a judge or jury is counseled to remain neutral and not place personal judgments based on their own experiences.
When one leaves their preconceived notions at the door, and allows the evidence to take them where ever it may, that is when they are in the proper frame of mind to glean the knowledge which is priceless beyond measure. If we approached a case in a court of law the same way we approach the Bible, we would be in trouble, and no crime would ever be solved. People would get convicted on the personal experiences, biases and perceptions of a judge or jury rather than letting the evidence speak for itself.
Our attitude makes all the difference. We need to approach the Bible the same as we would any topic of important study, with the idea that we are ready to have our lives changed, and that we are willing to change our views, if necessary. No, YAH (God) does not change, but we must change if we wish to line ourselves up with HIS thinking rather than our own (or that of our Pastor or Priest)..
The core message of the Bible, as taught by Yahshua (Jesus) is repentance, and this means to change. What right do we have to our own perspective in a court of law? None. What right do we have to our own perspective when it comes to the word of God? If you are a true seeker of truth, none. Just as a parent makes rules for the children in the household, so too does God make the rules for us. Yah was not made in our image, we were made in His.
A Physician goes to college for many years before he is equipped to practice medicine, then he practices medicine for many years before he is considered to be a great physician. That is the way it is with any worthwhile endeavor, it takes time, patience and endurance to achieve greatness. Most of the Bible is written with some information in one place and more in another, so it takes effort to see the whole picture.
It takes work to do a thorough search to find all the relevant passages in the Bible, which relates to a particular topic, but we know that the path to eternal is life is not the easy broad path, but rather the difficult and narrow path (Matt. 7:13,14)
The Bible has to be inspired by God, if it is to be taken seriously because that is what it claims. The Bible has the following evidences to offer:
* It ranks number 1 in manuscript evidence having a total of 24,000+ manuscript copies of the New Testament alone.
* Historical evidence exists which prove people of the Bible existed
* We know that the places referred to in the Bible exist
* The Dead Sea Scrolls discovered in 1947 did not contradict the Bible one whit, but rather remains as a second witness.
Nelson Glueck , a renowned Jewish Archeologist wrote , “It may be stated categorically that no archeological discovery has ever contradicted a Biblical reference.” William F. Albright, another of the world’s most renowned archaeologists, stated, “There can be no doubt that archaeology has confirmed the substantial historicity of Old Testament tradition .”
Evidence exists outside of the Bible itself such as penned in the writings and works of:
* Eusebias (Ecclesiastical History, 3-39 referring to the gospel of Mark )
* Papias c. 130 A.D. refers to the gospel of Matthew
* Irenaeus c. 180 A.D refers to the four gospels and Matthew
Archeologist Joseph Free said “Archaeology has confirmed countless passages which had been rejected by critics as unhistorical or contrary to known facts.”
Of course, as any atheist will point out, that just because their is historical proof authenticating the Bible as having historical significance; that this does not prove any of the supernatural claims. And of course, there is no absolute proof for the true skeptic, but for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear, the evidence is massive.
The evidence lies in the multiple fulfilled prophecies, which could not be possible on coincidental concepts alone. The purpose of this article is not to mention every prophecy, thus making the article long and tedious. The concepts in this article are meant to tweak the interest of those who care, so that they may become as “The Bereans ,” and seek out these truths for themselves.
When personal effort is put into any endeavor it becomes more valuable to the individual, which is why studying and searching these things for yourselves is far superior than allowing a preacher, a teacher and a minister to tell you what it is you should believe. Often these teachers interject their own perceptions, which ought not to be done. We are to obey YAH (God), and not any man, including those who appear to wield authority. If any man contradicts the law of God, he is not to be trusted.
The only way to assure that you are not being deceived is to search out His word:
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica , in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” Acts 17:1
“The excessive skepticism of many liberal theologians stems not from a careful evaluation of the available data, but from an enormous predisposition against the supernatural.” Millar Burrows, professor of archaeology, Yale University , exposing the cause of persistent unbelief.
The claims of the Bible are verifiable, but it takes desire, time and effort. We put great effort into our relationships and careers, so too, understanding and believing the Bible takes much effort, but also, there is great pay-off. Our hope lies in the resurrection, and the desire for eternal life. We can trust these things are true because of the consistency of the prophetic events which have already occurred, and which we believe will continue to occur until we reside safely in the arms of our Father.
