My Belkin cooling pad is the Black model F5L055. It has one fan in the very middle of the cooling pad and it’s designed to pull air from the underneath and sides of the cooling pad and then exhaust the hot air from the sides underneath the laptop. The fan itself is located directly where the CPU is on most laptops, so the fan is hitting right where the laptop needs the most cooling.
The actual design of the cooling pad itself is pretty well done. It raises your laptop up some to help with typing and to reduce wrist strain and the raised screen height makes it more comfortable when reading a lot on the laptop’s monitor. I found that because of the way it’s designed it works a lot better on a desk rather than in your lap. I’ve used it in my lap before but it just felt uncomfortable and awkward, so I keep it on my desk when using it, which is fine for me because I only ever really need to use it when I’m playing games.
For what it’s designed for, it works really well. It’s kept my laptop cool through long gaming sessions that would normally cause my laptop to overheat. While at first glance it doesn’t seem like the fan is pushing out much air, it’s still enough to keep the laptop cool. Some of the more expensive cooling pads would probably push a lot more air and thus keep the laptop a lot cooler, but considering how cheap the Belkin cooling pad is it’s not too bad.
The noise from the fan can get a little loud from time to time, but I’ve found that adjusting my laptop a little on the cooling pad itself helps to reduce the fan noise considerably. However, no matter what you do there will still be a little noise coming from the fan, but if you have headphones on while using the cooling pad it won’t be a big deal anyways.
One of the biggest issues I’ve had with the Belkin cooling pad is how short the USB cable is to plug into the laptop. There’s been several times I’ve tried to adjust my laptop but can’t move it very far because of how short the USB cable is.
The cooling pad itself is pretty small, so I wouldn’t really recommend it for cooling laptops larger than 15″ unless you’re fine with the sides of your laptop hanging off the cooling pad, but being so small makes it a lot easier to travel with as it fits into just about any laptop carrying bag without much issue. So it is really good for someone who travels with their laptop a lot.
For a simple and cheap way to keep your laptop cool the Belkin cooling pad is a great deal, but if you have a large laptop or find that your laptop is consistently over heating you would probably be much better off getting a larger and more powerful cooling pad.
