The Bachelor, Brad Womack, & Addict to Reality TV!
Pop Culture That Captured My Attention by Surprise…
From Friends and Seinfeld to The Bachelor and American Idol
When reality television was just beginning to be the new buzz word swarming, I was not one of the first viewers to jump on board the hippie hip hooray glee boat!
I had more of a pirate’s spirit in regards to the whole concept of watching reality TV, expressing the whole kit and caboodle of disdain with my eyes rolling to the back of my head and mustering little “argh’s” during prime time channel surfing!
The thought of not watching the crafted arts from actors and actresses on the boob tube was unsettling. It was a big change in prime time to have reality shows popping up left and right instead of my old favorites like Friends, Seinfeld, Cheers, and Moonlighting.
With my sitcoms and classic drama-comedy-romance Moonlighting I knew what to expect every time I tuned in. To keep it short and sweet, a good show! Respectively, after the half hour or hour show I was prime time satisfied and already anticipating next week’s new episodes!
Where I have to admit my miss thought!
I foolishly thought that reality TV meant watching regular people on TV and hoping that it would just by accident make for good television!
Not quite the case today! I don’t recall the exact specific as to what turned me on to reality TV, maybe it was the lack luster made for TV shows that the networks were hopelessly trying to promote! Yup, I’m pretty sure that was it!
Don’t take me as a complete turn about to reality TV. There are still a few remaining new made for TV shows my DVR snaps up for me, like Lie To Me! I love that show! I love to figure out whose lying and why before the show reveals the answer for you. Not to mention the side fact, I have a natural ability to detect lies myself with deeper knowing than just body and facial language! Very helpful tool, but sometimes I wish I could just play the stereotypical dumb blonde on an issue!
A little attention for reality TV:
The shows are like gold nuggets for the Networks! Instead of viewers having a familiar comfort level of knowing what to expect on each new episode of made for TV, viewers are left hanging on mini previews of what is to be aired within the show’s dedicated time slot! Awesome marketing opportunities are ample for the Networks here!
My top faves for current reality TV slots are: The Bachelor, American Idol, Paranormal State, and Ghost Adventures! A little bit of romance, watching stars rise that share my passion of singing, and the mysteries of the unknown are in my mixed bag of DVR recordings!
Happy boob tubing to all!
