Looks like being a “Bachelor” blogger can sometimes be a thankless job.
For the past several seasons, ABC’s “The Bachelor” franchise has been the subject of spoiler sites that are determined to leak the show’s ending. And at the top of the spoiler site mountain is the king of all “Bachelor” bloggers, Steve Carbone- or more famously known as Reality Steve.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD: DO NOT READ IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW THE POSSIBLE OUTCOME OF ” THE BACHELOR” SEASON 15 FINALE.
For fans in the know, Reality Steve’s site has long been the place to go to get all of the latest information on “The Bachelor.” And Steve’s spoilers record is good: he broke the Jason Mesnick scandal well before it aired on TV (Mesnick famously dumped his final pick, Melissa Rycroft, during an on-air reunion show and then linked back up with his #2 girl, Molly Malaney).
He had Jake Pavelka’s season down to a tee (Pavelka’s pick: Vienna Girardi) and he has even had the last two seasons of the series- Ali Fedotowksy’s “Bachelorette” season and Brad Womack’s currently-running “Bachelor” season logged as well- date by date, rose by rose.
Except for one thing. Those darn endings.
Last season, Reality Steve ferociously changed his ending to Fedotowsky’s season mere hours before the finale aired. While he had at first been hazy on the exact outcome of the show, he later blogged with all certainty that Fedotowsky picked no one at the end and stuck with that ending for most of the season.
But in the nick of time, sources came through to say that Fedotowsky was instead engaged to Roberto Martinez. This turned out to be the correct ending-and although Reality Steve leaked it in time, naysayers cried foul.
With this season’s Brad Womack “Bachelor” stint, Reality Steve had been certain since the show even began airing that Womack picked Chantal O’Brien at the end. He even had info that Womack spent Thanksgiving with the O’Brien family and that the couple was indeed enaged.
But now- just two weeks before the finale is due to air- new information has come out that pegs fan fave Emily Maynard as Brad’s chosen one. Reality Steve now says his sources were wrong and that Womack is instead engaged to the Southern belle single mother.
So why now should fans believe Reality Steve’s changed ending?
With the exception of this new ending, everything else has been on point this season. And when he changed his ending last season, his revised ending was indeed correct.
But the bigger question is- who is messing with Reality Steve’s spoilers?
Some fans think that either ABC or “Bachelor” exec producer Mike Fleiss are planting bad information for him to leak.
Critics will give him a hard time, but in his latest column the “Bachelor” blogger is all apologies as he dishes the revised dirt. He doesn’t blame fans who are skeptical.
In a way, it’s an interesting twist because now even the most blatant spoiler followers will be a tad unsure until the finale episode airs. It’s almost like never having read the spoilers at all.
And until that final rose is given out, fans still don’t know what- or who- to believe.
