These days every movie maker in Hollywood is cashing in on the comic book Superhero movie craze. Batman, Spiderman and Superman are all getting ample screen time, but even lesser known hero’s like The Shadow and Jonah Hex are getting a shot at the big screen. Here is a list of the best Superhero movies ever made.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)
Hugh Jackman delivers big time in this movie. Marvel does a good job of incorporating lesser known mutants into the movie in bit parts. Ryan Reynolds appears as mutant Wade Wilson before jumping from Marvel to become DC’s Green Lantern
Flash Gordon (1980)
Sam Jones stars as Flash Gordon (I know…”Who is Sam Jones?”), but Max Von Sydow gives a performance of the ages as the Emperor Ming. Future Bond Timothy Dalton plays Prince Barin. Not the best special effects or acting by Jones, but a good storyline.
Iron Man (2008)
Robert Downey, Jr. couldn’t be any better as arrogant billionaire playboy Tony Stark. Not a big fan of Terrence Howard’s character and apparently I wasn’t the only one because Don Cheadle took over in Iron Man 2. Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow are splendid and we love the Samuel L. Jackson cameo and tie in to future movies.
Batman Returns (1992)
Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken combined in one movie. Each of them gives the performance of a lifetime in Batman Returns and Tim Burton scores a grand slam here. The series went to the toilets after this one which is coincidentally Burton and Keaton’s last in the series.
Rarely is a sequel better than the original and it’s even rarer when the original was a good movie. X2 accomplishes this with a great cast and incredible action sequences. Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart and the always incredible Ian McKellan deliver a blockbuster!
Tim Burton takes the caped crusader back to his original dark persona and away from the flashy style that had become popular. Michael Keaton was a comedic actor before this role and convinced everyone that he was a legitimate Bruce Wayne. Last but never least was the performance of Jack Nicholson.
Spiderman 2 (2004)
Spidey comes to life on the big screen big time. We live through a good plot that takes us through the pains of becoming a superhero when just trying to live a normal life. Spiderman 2 is another of those rare films that is better than the original.
Batman Begins (2005)
How does someone like Bruce Wayne become Batman? Here’s how! Batman Begins is a knockout punch with Oscar power. Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman give veteran power packed performance that legitimizes this film as not just an action flick.
Richard Donner takes the greatest comic book Superhero of all time and puts him in a movie worthy of its title. Gene Hackman started a phenomenon of the villain out-performing the title character that would last over 30 years later. The musical score is one of the best ever and makes you feel that you can really fly.
The Dark Knight (2008)
The number one film on our list is quite possibly one of the best films ever made. When you take on a role that Jack Nicholson played perfectly and make people say “wow” you have accomplished an immortal feat and Heath Ledger does just that. Ledger and Aaron Eckhart give the best performances of their careers. The movie is so good; you even overlook the fact that Katie Holmes has been replaced.
