John got in his car and started it up. It was a yellow car, and it was a decent car. The motor ran, the oil flowed, and the brakes worked. He was happy with his car, but noticed he was running low on gas. He was already late so he decided that a couple extra minutes would not matter to Stanley. John drove around until he noticed the gas station that he could get gas at. The gas station was a newer one, and it was usually empty. Maybe one or two cars would fill up while he was getting gas, but no more. When he went in to get his receipt he noticed a sign near the cash register. ” Monsters! The Play is now live! See it at the park from Noon to 3:00 during the weekends. All month long!” For some reason, this gave John a slight chill that ran down his back. He also felt like his mind was trying to subconsciously remember something, put he just could not recognize what. He payed for his gas and sauntered out of the gas station, still curious about the “monsters play” and wondered why it sounded so familiar to him. As John drove to work he tried to think about monsters, but he could not recognize anything that has happened in the past month or so.
John parked in his usual spot and got out of his car. He had finished his apple and brought the core with him so he could dispose of it. John noticed that Stanley was sitting at his desk, without doing any work. He also noticed no customers. When John got in the store he asked what was going on. “What’s happening Stanley? Where is everyone?” John was not just saying this to initiate a conversation; He really was curious. “John, finally, you’re here!” Stanley quickly replied. “Jake and Dean quit. They said they had nothing against the company, but they needed some extra time off. Ron called in sick. He said he had the flu and he would be out for a few days, but the rest of the guys were here. We rarely saw any customers today, so I just decided to close up for the rest of the day.” To John, this was great news. He was able to come into work late and once he got there, Stanley already closed the store. No work for him today. “Awesome! Do you want to mess with some experimenting?” He asked, knowing the answer would most likely be ‘yes’ and hoping it would be, too. “Um, sure, I guess. Why not?” Stanley replied sounding somewhat irked and uninterested. John was not sure why Stanley was not happy about the experiment. They did it almost every day and they thought that it was a productive time period of the day, but for some reason, Stanley was not in the “Mad Scientist” mood.
