During the colder winter months it takes a lot of effort to stay physically active. A great way for families looking to increase activity and learn a new skill is to explore swimming lesson options in Kansas City. From traditional programs to more contemporary options, below is a guide to swimming lessons in Kansas City and the greater metro area for children and adults.
1.YMCA – The YMCA has offered swim lessons since its inception. I remember taking them in elementary school and bragging about my status as a stingray while jealously watching the sharks learn how to dive. The program is fantastic and they offer lessons for both adults and children. Unfortunately, the YMCA isn’t accepting registration currently through March, however I was assured through a few phone calls that those centers in Blue Springs, Olathe and Lees Summit add programs based on demand, so keep your eyes open.
2.North Kansas City Community Center – The NKCC offers private lessons for children and adults members by appointment only for $20.00 each half hour. Membership can be obtained on a monthly or annual basis and ranges from $53.00 per household to $533.00 per household. They also offer a multi-use (20 visit) pass for individuals only at $95.00 for adults and $72.00 for youths and seniors. Households are limited to 5 individuals in the home, however additional household members can be added for just $7.00 per person.
3.Supersplash, USA – This outdoor summer attraction offers swim lessons for $40.00 per child per session. They offer morning and evening sessions, two days a week for two or three weeks, respectively. They offer levels for small kids, beginners and advanced swimmers so everyone in the family can learn something new.
4. Clayview Country Club – Families in Liberty, the Northland and KCMO can explore membership at the Clayview Country Club which boasts lessons both and a class environment and private lessons. Membership can be pricy but it does offer access to many amenities. To gain swim lessons, it’s $35.00 for a 2 week session that runs three or four days a week, and of course private, 30 minute sessions are available for $20.00 each.
5.Jeff Kelly, Inc. – Jeff Kelly Inc. offers personalized swim instruction and boasts a national reputation. His classes are limited to four per session, which consists of 8, 35 minute lessons. The tuition for a maxed class is about $99.00 per student and the pricing seems based on how many people are available for the class, so I would strongly suggest contacting them for full details. The website gives a great breakdown of what is offered, and the different programs including instruction in your own backyard.
