As Survivor Redemption Island Episode 2 began, Francesca arrived at Redemption Island the night of Tribal Council. At Redemption Island, she found basic supplies. A sign at the entrance of Redemption Island informed her that she would receive rice rations and drinking water every day. She had a positive attitude about being on the island. She tried to start a fire, but it didn’t look like she was seeing any success.
Life at Ometepe
Phillip approached Rob; he told him that Rob “owns his vote” until he heads off to Redemption Island. This didn’t help Rob’s opinion of Phillip. It looked like Phillip would be the next to go.
Phillip started to cry when he talked in the confessional about Tribal Council. He talked about how he loved his country, and how as a special agent he wore the uniform of his country and earned the right to become trustworthy (do special agents even have uniforms?). It truly seems as if this guy is not all there.
Matt and Andrea were getting along well. Rob took notice of this; he didn’t like how close they were together. He liked the idea of going to the end with Natalie, but he wasn’t sure if that was the route he wanted to take or not. Instead of voting out Phillip, it looked like a more urgent priority for him was to break up their partnership. He knew how a close twosome could dominate the game, as that was a strategy that he had used with Amber.
Surviving at Zapatera
Russell had allied himself with Krista and Stephanie. He suggested to Krista that they go look for the hidden immunity idol after they got the first clue. Russell, who was famous for being able to find hidden immunity idols without clues, started to look for the idol; Ralph decided to look too. Ralph ended up finding the idol first, inside a stump; so much for Russell’s plan to save his hide by finding an idol.
For the immunity challenge, five of the Survivors would swim across a pool and smash a tile on the other side; that would release a key. Once five keys were released, another tribemate would use the keys to open three locks. When the locks were opened, the final tribe member would throw a ball at a board with five tiles. The first tribe to break all five tiles would win a reward of fishing gear and immunity..
Ometepe took an early lead, and maintained the lead through the whole first stage. Zapatera took the lead during the key opening stage. During the third stage, Ralph had broken four tiles before Phillip broke their second tile for Ometepe. Ometepe caught up and tied the challenge, but Ralph broke the final tile for his tribe for the win.
After the Challenge
On the way back from the immunity challenge, Russell grabbed the basket of fishing gear, and found a clue to the hidden immunity idol in one of the flippers. Ralph noticed that Russell found the clue, and notified his alliance of what he saw.
Ralph and Mike confronted Russell at the well, asking him about whether he had found the hidden immunity idol or not. Russell wouldn’t give him an answer, and replied that “you’re either with me or against me” and that he didn’t like how he was approaching him.
Over at Redemption Island, Francesca was given her luxury item, a journal, when she checked treemail. She noted that she didn’t know how long it would be until another person showed up to challenge her, and she didn’t know whether or not she would end up spending time with the other person before the duel. She hoped that she didn’t have to spend any more time with Phillip.
At Omatepe, Phillip gathered the tribe together and called a meeting. He gave a pep talk, telling them that they performed gallantly. It looked as if he was trying to assume a leadership position that the others didn’t really feel like he deserved. So much for his ability to read people well due to his time as a “special agent”.
Rob saw Matt congratulating members of the other tribe after they won the challenge; this angered him, and led him to decide to get rid of Matt instead of Andrea. Since Andrea and Matt were in his alliance, he had to figure out how to vote them out without telling them. He told his followers, Grant, Natalie, and Ashley, the truth: they would vote out Matt. To Andrea and Matt, he said that the girls were going to vote for Kristina, and the guys were voting for Phillip.
Rob didn’t trust Phillip, who had promised him loyalty, to keep his mouth shut. Rob told him that they would be voting out whoever he put his right arm on during tribal council.
Survivor Tribal Council
Phillip didn’t Rob’s plans at tribal council, but he did talk a little too much. He told everyone that he was like the gorilla tattooed on his left shoulder, which didn’t attack unless he was provoked, and that he was a little bit like the lion tattooed on his right shoulder, which the other animals wouldn’t approach unless they were starving. It sounded like a lot of the nonsense that he is becoming known for. Rob put his hand on Kristina’s shoulder, indicating that he wanted Phillip to vote for her.
There wasn’t a big bombshell revealed at Tribal council, and the vote turned out as planned. Kristina played her hidden immunity idol, although she only received two votes and didn’t need to. Phillip received a vote from Matt and a vote from Kristina, while Matt received the remaining four votes. Andrea looked a little confused when she saw that her allies had decided to vote out Matt instead of following the plan that she was shown. More than likely, her opinion of Rob has diminished.
