When Survivor Nicaragua Episode 12 began, the tribe had just returned from tribal council. Holly found it unbelievable that Kelly S. and Naonka had quit. They named their chicken Kelly-Nay after Kelly and Naonka because they were both chicken.
Sash announced that he would play the idol during the next tribal council. He thought that he had a target on his back now that Kelly and Naonka had quit, and he wanted to find a new group of people to ally with.
Survivor Reward Challenge
The reward challenge was a second chance challenge, using bits and pieces from challenges that the Survivors had completed earlier in the game. They would race in stages. In the first stage, they would race through a mud pit, find a ball in some hay, and bounce the ball off a shield and then into a barrel. The first four people to win this part of the challenge would move on to the second stage. Chase, Benry, Holly, and Jane finished this stage first.
In the second stage, Survivors had to retrieve a key from a wire with a stick. They would use their key to open a chest with sandbags in it, then they would throw their sandbags onto a barrel. The first two people to land four sandbags on the barrel would move on to the third stage. Chase and Benry retrieved their keys quickly. They continued to stay in the lead until they both threw their sandbags onto the barrels to advance. Holly and Jane never even were able to retrieve their keys.
In the third stage, Benry and Chase had to dig up three rope rings from a sand pile. After they found the rope rings, they had to throw them onto a board with pegs on it. Chase had an early lead and ended up winning. He was able to take two people with him; he chose to take Holly and Jane on the reward. Although he said that he’d take Sash with him prior to the challenge, he took Jane instead.
After the Reward Challenge
The reward consisted of a wonderful lunch, along with a night in a nice little hut with a shower, soap, and a real bed. The Survivors also received a massage in the evening
Sash thought that when Chase chose to take Jane and Holly with him, he was making a dumb move. While they were away, he tried to talk the others into making him a part of their alliance. Dan wasn’t so sure that he trusted him, especially after how he betrayed his friend Brenda.
Over at the reward, Chase realized that he made a mistake by taking Jane with him. He decided to try to get back on Sash’s good side when he returned.
Everybody ate well that night: Benry, Sash, Fabio, and Dan killed the chicken for dinner. Jane was upset that the chicken had been killed.
Although the chickens may not last for the entire game, the scheming doesn’t stop. Benry approached Chase shortly after they returned. Benry tried to convince him to vote out Jane; Chase suggested that they vote out Fabio.
Chase also talked to Sash after returning from the reward. Holly joined them, and Sash suggested that they vote out Jane next. Benry, Fabio, and Dan noticed that Sash was talking to them; this cemented their idea that Sash could be trusted. Benry approached the group and brought up Jane’s name again as someone that they should vote out next; he said that he’d vote out Fabio too, as long as it kept him in the game.
Survivor Immunity Challenge
For the immunity challenge, the Survivors would were attached to the end of a rope that was wound around a hitching rail. As they maneuvered around the post, rope would be released. When they thought that they had enough rope to reach a gold bag that was located a ways away, they would run out to grab the bag. The first three people to get their bags would move on. Fabio got the first bag. Benry and Sash earned the second and third positions.
For the second part of the immunity challenge, the Survivors had to solve a puzzle with gold-coin-shaped puzzle pieces that were in their bags. After the puzzle was arranged correctly, it would look like stacks of gold coins. Sash did well on his puzzle; Benry was about to give up. Fabio looked to Sash to try to solve his puzzle. Sash solved the puzzle first and won immunity.
After the challenge, it looked like most of the tribe wanted to vote out Fabio, but they had to figure out what to tell Fabio. Benry, Dan, and Sash decided to tell him that they were going to vote out Holly. Although Fabio initially had a bad feeling that he was going to be voted out, once they told him that they were going to get rid of Holly, he was confident that he would survive the night’s vote.
When the jury walked into tribal council, Jeff made a point of recognizing that Naonka and Kelly S. had quit.
Jeff asked about voting out people because they were threats in tribal council. He wondered whether people thought that Chase was a threat because he was strong. Chase pointed out that he hadn’t won an individual immunity yet. Jane believed that Fabio was a physical threat; Fabio said that he was friendly and trusted his alliance as a way to keep his target off of his back.
Sash noted that he was glad that he had immunity, because more people talked to him. Fabio said that he wasn’t worried about people talking to Sash. Holly, on the other hand, was concerned about the vote that night.
Although it looked like everybody except Fabio would be voting for Fabio that night, the final tally was 1 vote for Holly, 2 votes for Fabio, and 4 votes for Benry, whose torch was snuffed. Chase, Jane, Holly, and Sash all voted for Benry. Initially, it seems odd that the now-dominant alliance would vote for Benry while Benry and Dan would vote for Fabio. What must have happened was that The alliance didn’t want to let Benry know that they were going to vote him out, so they let him (and his alliance) think that they were voting out Fabio.
