Every woman wishes she could have her own professional makeup artist like the celebrities. It’s simply not practical to run out to a makeup counter whenever we want to get dolled up for a nice night out. Learning a few tricks of the trade will definitely save you money and time. You’ll feel gorgeous with these simple makeup tricks and best of all you can look like you’ve had a professional do your makeup whenever you want without pesky appointments. You’ll look fabulous and out the door in no time. This is perfect if you’re running late for a date or just don’t want to spend so much time getting ready for work or day out in the town. I call this the low maintenance woman’s makeup.
Foundation for Flawless Skin
Most women make the mistake of putting on one color foundation, thinking it’s sufficient. Using two-toned foundation will not only make you look more “natural” but you’ll bring out your fabulous bone structures (or at least fake it).
Before you do anything at all it’s absolutely crucial you use a primer. It’ll help cover up all your imperfections and will hold the makeup in place. Trust me, you’ll thank me for it.
SPECIAL PRO TIP: Fingers are your best tool. Use them! Makeup artists have to use brushes and sponges on clients as its protocol but try using your fingers and you’ll love it.
I personally love liquid foundation as it’s easiest to blend. You’ll need to shades: one that matches your skin tone and about 4-5 shades darker than your natural color. Don’t worry you won’t look like you’ve spent too much time in the tanning bed. After your primer, apply the natural foundation on with your fingers or brush if you’re not comfortable working with fingers.
With just a tiny drop of the darker shade you’ll want to make sure to cover along your jaw line up to your ears. Make sure you blend really well and cover underneath your chin and drag a little down your neck. Use more foundation as needed. You’ll also want to cover along your hairline and temple. Smile and where right beneath your cheekbones (or if your flat is flatter where it should be) you’ll want to apply the foundation. Make sure that you create an upside down C shaped seashell and drag the line up towards your temple and blend.
That’s it for the foundation. You should look perfectly healthy with great bone structures rather than dull as you normally do with just one colored foundation. To really lock in your makeup run a lighter powder over your face with a brush.
I like to use a combination of cream blush and powder. With your fingers apply the cream blush the same way you applied the darker foundation on your cheeks in the upside down seashell. Make sure that you blend the blush upwards onto your cheeks. Hit the apple of the cheeks with the powder.
It’s crucial to use a liner if you’re wearing color on your lips. It’ll keep the lipstick from running but it’ll also make your lips look nice and plump. If you don’t want to wear a lipstick then I suggest running the cream blush on your lips without a liner. It’ll give it a little color without the fuss that comes along with lipstick.
SPECIAL PRO TIP: If you’re wearing red (or pink) here’s the how-to. You’ll want to cover your entire lips with concealer to cancel out your natural lip color to get the true red or pink you’re trying to wear. Again, it’s crucial that you line your lips. Once you’ve lined your lips, you’ll want to color in your lips with the red pencil. Lastly, apply the red lipstick. This is my pro tip on how to keep a long wear red. Red lip is classic but when it runs it looks really bad.
