Summary of first game (III)
One of the first and most famous of the now tired trend of sports guarantees, Joe Namath guaranteed his Jets from the upstart AFL would defeat the Colts from the NFL and did so to the tune of 16-7. The win in the “AFL-NFL World Championship Game” earned the respect of the nation for the Jets and the AFL as the time for leagues’ merger drew closer.
*The Jets, having won this game before the said merger, have never won an NFL title in their history and never won an AFC championship.
My favorite Jets SB moment
What else? I don’t remember the game since it was before my time so the image of Joe running into the tunnel holding up his index finger as if to say “we’re number one and I told you so” will forever be burned into my mind.
