According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, phil&teds USA Inc., of Fort Collins, CO, has voluntarily recalled two of their products. This recall was released January 21, 2011.
What is being recalled?
Approximately 30,000 strollers are included in this recall (22,000 in the US and 7,200 in Canada).
What’s the problem?
Your (or your child’s) finger(s) can become caught in the hinge mechanism of the stroller, which poses a threat of amputation and/or laceration when you are folding or unfolding the stroller. As of the time of this press release, there had been three reports of injuries to adult users. Two of the incidents were lacerations and the other was a finger tip amputation.
Which specific strollers are involved in this recall?
This recall is for the classic v1 and sport v2 models of single seat jogging strollers. The strollers have three wheels, a metal frame, a cloth seat, and a canopy.
The classic v1 model was only available in red and the serial numbers are 0308/0001 to 0510/0906.
The sport v2 model was available in several colors, including red, orange, green, black, charcoal, navy, and graffiti print. The serial numbers for the sport v2 model are 0308/0001 to 0510/0840.
The beginning digits of the serial numbers are indicative of a month/year date code and the ending digits are for the individual stroller. You can find the numbers on the inside of the folding hinge. The phil&teds logo can be found on the crotch piece of the harness.
These strollers were manufactured in China and sold in specialty juvenile stores across the US from May 2008 through July 2010 for $350 to $450.
