For those who celebrate Christmas the holidays can be full of holiday spirit and festive fun. From putting up holiday decorations to making Christmas themed foods, getting into the spirit of Christmas is one of the best things about the holiday season. The festive theme can be applied to so many things, including our fashion. If you like to look the part while you play it, you can have a lot of fun with Christmas themed nails. Here are a few fun ideas for easy home manicures that fit the Christmas theme. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas you can still take part in these winter themed manicures.
One thing that is most associated with winter is snow. Whether you love snow or hate it, most of us can agree that a white Christmas is something we all hope for. Even if it’s only for one day. A snow themed manicure is the perfect way to get into the spirit of winter. It’s easy to achieve as well.
Do you have a white nail polish sitting around that doesn’t get much use? On it’s own, white nail polish is not a favorite of many people. Now you can put that lonely white polish to use. For a snowy manicure all you really need is a white nail polish and a glitter nail polish. My favorite combination is Revlon Powder Puff topped with Confetti Ice Ice Baby. What you get is a soft white base that twinkles with green, blue and purple iridescent glitter. This combination looks just like the fake glittery snow you see in a lot of holiday decorations or under Christmas trees. I use 2-3 coats of white topped with 2 coats of glitter for the perfect snowy effect.
If you don’t have those specific colors you can be creative and use what you do have. Any white nail polish will do for the base. Choose a glitter top coat with a clear base and very fine glitter that is not too dense. You want the white base to show thorough. If you don’t like glitter, a white shimmer polish like Orly Winter Wonderland would do the trick as well.
Another really cute idea to top off your white base is a Christmas colored multi-colored glitter like China Glaze Party Hearty. On top of white, it reminds me of Christmas cookies with white icing and sprinkles.
Traditional Christmas Colors
Red, green, gold, silver and blue are the official colors of Christmas. You can go traditional and choose one of these colors for your holiday manicure. Red, green, gold, silver or blue nails just scream “It’s Christmas!” You can jazz your nails up a bit more by adding a matching glitter on top of your nails. For example, if you’re doing a red manicure, throw a coat of red glitter nail polish on top for some extra sparkle and added oomph.
You can also get creative and do something fun. One of my favorite things to do is combine two colors into one manicure. To get this look without going overboard, try creating an accent nail. An accent nail is one finger nail on each hand painted a different color than the rest of the nails. I usually do the accent on my ring finger because I just think it looks the best. My nail on my ring finger also happens to be the nicest nail for some reason. You can choose whichever finger you’d like and use any color combination you prefer. Just in case you’re stumped, here are some ideas.
Red with a green accent nail or green with a red accent nail is a traditional Christmas themed combination. If you’re a fan of glitter try painting just your accent nail with a glitter that either matches or coordinates with the other color you paint your nails. This is incredibly cute and a subtle way to add some flair.
Green with a gold accent nail or gold with a green accent nail. This looks really cute if both your green and gold have a metallic finish. Metallic nail polish in Christmas colors always remind me of the Christmas balls you put on your tree. You can try this with any metallic color combination you would like.
Blue with a silver accent nail or silver with a blue accent nail. Again this looks really cute if done in metallic finishes but the choice is yours. I also love a bright blue manicure with a silver glitter on the accent nail (on top of the blue polish).
The combinations and possibilities are endless! Choose colors that you like and that make you think of Christmas.
Christmas Nail Stamping
Nail stamping is a great way to get super creative with your nails. You can buy Christmas or winter themed nail stamping plates for your holiday manicure if you don’t already have them. Use traditional Christmas colors for the base color if you’d like and fun winter or holiday images for the stamping. Some image ideas include snow flakes, Christmas trees, candy canes, bells, gift boxes, snow men, ribbons or anything else you can think of! Konad and Bundle Monster both offer stamping plates with holiday images so check those out if you still have time. If not, you can always buy some to use next year.
