EMBRACING YOUR NATURAL BODY: GRAVITY DOESN’T WORRY ABOUT YOU, SO DON’T WORRY ABOUT GRAVITY
I will be fifty years old in just a few months and guess what? I could care less. Age is not a problem for me because I take good of myself, I feel good, I still feel sexy and I totally accepting of me. Am I a perfect? No. Do I look like a did when I was twenty-five? Hell no! Do I have some flab, saggy, jiggly spots and extra junk in my trunk? Yup!
I have all of those things as most women do at my age, but I don’t worry about it. There is nothing that we can do about aging and our bodies defying gravity, unless you want to and can afford to live in a plastic surgeon’s office and really, really like anesthesia and excruciating pain!
I will always be reasonably good to myself and my body, but I am not going to spend my life in a gym and eating lettuce, but I will work to maintain what I’ve got and to eventually improve. I’ve been the same weight (definitely not my ideal weight) for over ten years and have neither gained nor lost a pound. Okay, so the extra weight is bad, but the fact that I’ve maintained my weight and have not gained an ounce in ten years is terrific! Hooray for me (I think)!
Luckily for me, I am tall (around 5’9″), so I carry my weight well. I am not ashamed to say that I am a plus-sized women at exactly a size sixteen and yes, I can still shop at most stores. I am thick and well proportioned…think Mae West or Anna Nicole Smith at her larger size. I am not a Victoria’s Secret model but I’m surely not Jabba the Hutt either!
I consider myself voluptuous (to hell with what the rest of the world may think). I dress in a way that accentuates my va-va-va-voom factor and downplays my yucky parts. Okay, so my belly looks like it’s carried three children, had three c-sections and hasn’t seen a gym since the year of the blue snow. My boobs are heading for South for the duration and yes, I have those jiggly mommy-arms, but you know what? All of that can be remedied with the right clothing.
LOW HEELS AND FLATS: SEXINESS COMES DOWN TO EARTH
No, I can’t wear high heels anymore (degenerative arthritis and a hip replacement already took care of that!), but these days they make super-sexy embellished flats, funky gladiator sandals and hot boots with tiny little heels, so that’s what I wear. You can still maintain your sexy in flats or a little platform or kitten heel. To hell with practical shoes. Practical does not have to mean hideous!
For great, sexy flat check out BakersShoes.com (http://www.bakersshoes.com/c3-293-Casual-Flats.aspx) for a beautiful selection of hot flats. Annie Sez stores often carry a great selection of flats and so do K-marts and Walmarts.
You don’t have to break the bank to have a fabulous shoe collection. This summer I rocked gladiator sandals with funky ankle straps that were so fierce and funky that every time I wore them I got stopped by woman of all ages, even teens, asking me where I’d gotten them and they were both from BakersShoes.com. Check out those sexy little numbers: (http://www.bakersshoes.com/p-141602-JACKIE.aspx?c=395 and http://www.bakersshoes.com/p-139178-DIVA.aspx?c=395).
For winter, I have a pair of black, clunky, knee-high pirate-style boots that I wear with my longer skirts, leggings or jeggings and the super-skinny jeans. Yes, I still rock the skin-tight look at my age, but just differently. just wear the tight bottoms now with long tops, tunics, over-sized t-shirts or long sweater dresses. It gives you a youthful, sexy, fashion-forward style but covers up the extra baggage in the caboose.
FLAUNTING YOUR FUNBAGS BEAUTIFULLY AND AGE-APPROPRIATELY
I still wear reasonably low-cut tops. Unless you are on the red carpet and an a-lister, there is no need to flaunt all of your funbags in public at any age! Being reasonably well-endowed and an older lady, I just push “the girls” up by wearing good bras. Victoria’s Secret bras are nice but costly. A good-fitting push-up bras is great, but good posture is important also. Carry yourself like queen by standing up tall and straight; this keeps the butt out, the stomach in and the head held high.
You can get decent bras with underwires and push-up padding on the cheap at many stores. Target Store’s Gilligan and O’Malley line of bras is good and there is nothing wrong with some matching undies to make you feel sexy (http://www.target.com/Intimates-Clothing-Womens/b/ref=nav_t_spc_1_inc_3_0?ie=UTF8&node=721026011). Hell, if the feeling hits me, and I want to feel super-sexy, I still rock the occasional thong. Nobody has to see or know about my sexy bloomers but me and my man LOL. There is nothing wrong with a little cleavage and bootyliciousness for us older chippies (within reason).
I’M NOT FAT, I’M MEGA-SEXY: SEXY DRESSES TO HIDE THE EXTRA POUNDS
If you’ve put on a little extra poundage over the years, OneStopPlus.com (http://www.onestopplus.com/) is an excellent site for clothing for us larger ladies. They also have tall sizes as well and a great selection of stuff from various online stores all in one place for reasonable prices. I may lose a few pounds at some point, but I will never be a size nine again nor do I want to be, so I work with what I’ve got right now.
Wraparound dresses like this one are excellent to hide figure flaws while maintaining the sexy are fabulous, especially when work with good push-up, boob enhancing bra (http://tinyurl.com/28cg4tc). Ruched dresses are also great for this as well (http://tinyurl.com/2ebwc39). Most of these dresses hit right above the knee, which is perfect for us more mature divas and because of the length, they can be paired with flats and even boots.
This is going to be a very short paragraph. Sexy hair is always redhot and if you don’t have it, then go and buy some like just about everybody in Hollywood. I have two words for you: Hair Extensions!!!!!
BEING COMFORTABLE WITH YOURSELF
I recently read somewhere that men consider a self-confident, happy, smiling woman, who seems at ease with herself very, very sexy and I agree. I can’t wear remember where I read it because I’m older now and probably have C.R.S. (Can’t Remember *&%#)! , but that’s not important anyway. The point is that you are what you are and not accepting it is not going to make you happy. If you don’t like something about yourself, then work towards changing it. If you can’t, then accept it as a part of who you are learn to live with it and work around it. A woman can be sexy at any age; look at Diane Keaton, Cher and Tina Turner to name a few. The key to natural sexiness is inner beauty that shines outwardly. Dress for sexiness and work it, hot mama!
