With many different craft projects scrapbook paper is used as the decorating technique. Cover things with scrapbook paper and they suddenly look much different. Plus, scrapbook paper comes in many different designs so you instantly create a décor piece that isn’t expensive. The problem with trying to cover things with scrapbook paper, like cardboard boxes, is that the corners never seem to look perfect. Use the scrapbook paper in a totally different way, though, and everything you make with it will look flawless!
Remember when you were a kid and you folded paper fans? Use that same tehcnique to create folded scrapbook paper embellishments for many different things. Cut a piece of scrapbook paper to be as wide as the object is tall. For example, if you are going to decorate a cardboard box which is four inches tall, cut the paper to be four inches wide. Cut the paper much longer than what you would need to simply wrap the box. You can cut the piece down later, if needed, or even add more to it.
Make a very narrow fold on one edge of the scrapbook paper and crease it really well. A heavy object, like scissors, can help you make a crisp fold. Continue folding the paper, like a fan, until it is as long as you need it to be to cover the particular object. Crease each fold well.
Wrap the accordion paper around the particular object while gluing it in place, here and there, all the way around. Tape or glue the ends together to finish. The accordion paper can help you make décor pieces from things like boxes, vegetable cans, tuna cans and similar things. Paint the object first, then wrap it with the accordion paper, and embellish how you want.
Make an accordion paper and wrap it around a Styrofoam or paper cup to make an unusual vase for artificial flowers. Make organizers for desks by wrapping the folded papers around small boxes or cans. Or, attach the accordion paper, turn the can upside-down, and use it as a pedestal for a statuette, photo or collectible.
Instead of scrapbook paper you can also make the wraps from cardstock. The cardstock wraps are even more sturdy than the scrapbook paper types. You can make the scrapbook papers sturdier, though, by gluing the paper to a thin piece of cardboard or by taping or gluing two scrapbook papers together before folding.
Try making an accordion wrap for something at your house and see how easy it is to turn something ordinary into a much nicer piece. With all the design choices of scrapbook paper you can easily make that piece have most any theme you want!
