TMZ has posted video of Christina Aguilera falling down on stage after finishing her song at the Grammy’s tonight, exactly one week after she botched the lyrics of the national anthem at the Super Bowl. If you didn’t see it, you really need to watch the video, which can see here.
Falling during a musical performance is nothing new. Just last month, the legendary Jimmy Buffett fell off a stage hard enough to be hospitalized while performing in Sydney, Australia. You can see the vide of that fall right here. [Source: Dresdale, Andrea and Olivia Katrandjian. Fortunately, Jimmy’s okay.
But falling at the Grammy’s takes concert falls to a new level. Fortunately, Christina Aguilera stayed on the stage. She was walking away from the audience when she fell and (as you can see in the above video), did not completely smack the floor. Her crew helped her up. Most of the news articles I have seen covering the Grammy’s do not even mention the incident.
After last week’s national anthem embarrassment, you can bet that Christina Aguilera’s Grammy fall will be all over the internet in about five minutes. This just goes to show how a highly publicized embarrassment can lead to heightened scrutiny of a performer. If any other performer had slipped at the Grammy’s tonight, we probably would not care. It is the combination of last week’s national anthem with this week’s slip that makes the fall notable.
And of course we are all wondering: What nationally televised blooper will Aguilera provide us next Sunday? Seriously, though, let’s hope Christina Aguilera can go one week without embarrassing herself. As funny as the national anthem and Grammy bloopers were, I still cringe when I see them. I think most fans (and non-fans) would rather see a performer nail a performance than provide blooper fodder.
