Of all the scandals and off-the-field attention-grabbers that one might have envisioned for the next New York Jets public relations fiasco, a foot fetish video allegedly starring head coach Rex Ryan (off-camera narrator) and his wife, Michelle, probably would have never made one’s list. Yet, there it is, prominently posted on Deadspin, the same site that earlier this year outed Brett Favre’s texting and alleged penis photo-sexting chase of Jenn Sterger while he was quarterbacking for the Jets. And for all the doubters, Deadspin has also gone to great length to try to convince the reader that the woman in the video more than likely is Michelle Ryan and the guy holding the camera — and with the foot fetish — not only sounds like Rex Ryan but is the head coach of the New York Jets.
Still, Deadspin is leaving it up to the viewer to decide. They are even cagey with the title of the article: “This May or May Not Be Rex Ryan’s Wife Making Foot-Fetish Videos.” Besides the initial video, which shows Michelle Ryan dangling her feet out an SUV window and reveals the voice of a man (holding the camera) getting romantic about feet that sounds somewhat consistent to what Rex Ryan sounds like, Deadspin added five other videos they were able to find and attribute to an account-holder by the name of “ihaveprettyfeet.”
The woman does bear a close resemblance to Michelle Ryan, and according to the profile of “ihaveprettyfeet,” she once lived in Ellicott City, Maryland, which is where the Ryans lived prior to his getting the coaching job in New York. There are several other interesting coincidentals outlined by Deadspin, like being a Virgo, a homemaker, and having a college degree. But one of the strange coincidences centered around the videomakers’ birthdays of “ihaveprettyfeet” and he husband. Her birthday was on the same day as Rex Ryan’s. His birthday was in August 1963. Michelle was born in August 1963.
But Deadspin is nothing if not entertaining. They insist that you not judge Rex and Michelle Ryan: ” A lot of you will judge the Ryans over this. Please don’t. Lots of Americans have bizarre tastes. Just think: There are people out there who’ll cheer for the Jets.”
It has been a bizarre year for the New York Jets, especially with regard to off-field distractions. Besides the Deadspin-scooped Brett Favre alleged penis pictures scandal (with a much-played Deadspin created video montage of the pictures, sexts, texts, and voice messages), there was the just-beginning-to-fade Sal Alosi tripping incident (another video that went viral), and the Inez Sainz sexual harassment allegations.
What does Rex Ryan have to say about the rest of the world’s sudden interest in his alleged foot fetish and the video? According to Fanhouse, during a recent conference call with the Chicago media in preparation for the game against the Bears, Ryan said, “I know you need to ask, but it’s a personal matter.”
He didn’t deny it. In fact, the usually outspoken and off-the-cuff coach refused to put his foot in his mouth…
