A couple days ago, my wife had to run to Wal-mart for a few things (we are planning a romantic getaway for our anniversary in a couple of weeks and she is starting to look for something to wear). Since she was there, I asked her to look for something different for dinner. At the time, I thought she would just pick up a frozen TV dinner or something. But, she sent me a text a short time later telling me she found a Philly Cheese Steak Kit from the Wal-mart store brand Great Value.
When I talked to her later, she told me that, when she first saw this product, she wasn’t all that interested in it because she thought it was simply the meat. However, she decided to buy it when she discovered it was, in fact, an actual kit that came with meat, cheese and the bread.
At first, I thought the $10 she paid for this was a bit high. However, when I learned it had enough inside it for four sandwiches, I realized that wasn’t too bad of a deal (I can only buy 2 sandwiches for that price from any of our local sub shops). And, after trying it, I decided it really was worth the money.
We had some errands that needed to be run after work the day she bought this and didn’t get around to making this kit until last night. One of the first things I liked about this product was how easy it was to make. There were a couple of steps, you had to bake the bread and you had to fry up the meat, but it wasn’t anything that was overly complicated and it took much less time than I thought it would be.
Another thing that impressed me was the quantity of meat and cheese inside the kit. My wife and I both took a very small amount with our first sandwiches because, with most kits like this, you have to do that to make sure you have enough for seconds. However, we learned there was more than enough for the four sandwiches and, even if we had packed both servings completely full, we would still have had leftover meat and cheese.
As far as taste goes, my opinion about this product is a bit mixed. I liked the meat and cheese; especially when we added green peppers and onions to it (we had to buy those separately). However, the bread, while much crispier than I expected frozen bread to be, was a bit tasteless and nowhere near as good as the bread that I can get at our local Cousin’s Subs.
Overall though, I do feel this was a good product. We got a filling meal that offered a reasonable amount of quality and quantity for a relatively low price. If you are looking for something different for dinner, I would recommend picking this up.
